Oprah getting backlash from some fans for Obama support
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2007/12/14/oprah-g... /

But some of the talk show host's fans aren't happy she's become politically outspoken, and many are sounding off on Oprah's Web site.

"Oprah," says one, "count me as tuned out for now." Another writes, "It's a real turn off for a lot of your fans." And yet another says "She has crossed a line and lost my trust completely."

snip
Back on Oprah's Web site, one commenter wrote, "Winfrey has artfully begun her stump speeches alongside Obama with a negative racial tone."

And another commenter wrote, "Don't pit blacks against whites."

Interviewed on ABC's Good Morning America Wednesday, Winfrey rejected the notion she is supporting Obama merely because he is black.

"I get a little..I guess the word is 'offended,'" Winfrey said. "To think that I would be supporting someone just because of their skin would mean we haven't moved far from Dr. King's speech in 1963, where he said we should be judged by the content of our character not the color of their skin."

so much for the double "O" extravaganza...

1. Isn't this to be expected?
Why would anyone think all Oprah fans would be or become Obama supporters? It stands to reason there would be among her fan base supporters of other candidates.

2. This ALWAYS happens - even if it was an elderly JohnFKennedy endorsing a candidate
the press would find a way to smear his actions as a letdown.

5. This isn't the press, it's her "fans".

9. The fans found by the press. Some Gore fans were disappointed when he endorsed Dean. It happens.
It just reflects on a person's priorities.

13. The press would never distort anything to sensationalize it, though.
Right?

:P

4. What people say on the internet
is irrelevant to the overall support she's attained. They're either Republicans...or Dems who support another candidate. Much ado with nothing really.

6. hmm
my hunch tells me these aren't so much fans as a bunch of repugnican derrieres spamming her site.

10. I think you should look at WHY the fans seem to be so upset..
If you read the comments, it should open your eyes a bit...

12. Oh yes, I'm suuuuure those people posting on Oprah's site were real fans
'Cuz Republican operatives NEVER show up on Internet discussions to promote a certain point of view. Nope, never.

16. I think it is people who just don't like her. And there sure are many
in this country. I don't know why. It could be her attitude toward some things but they have been out there since before she started to support Obama. But just remember she is an opportunist...she supported bush for two elections and just started being a democrat...she can lead Obama around by the nose. Between his wife and Oprah he doesn't have a chance.

OK...Oprah makes a stand and endorses Obama.

Now all the crybabies come out of the woodwork whining that she made a choice. Do people care about what Streisand thinks? No! What Bonnie Riatt thinks? Um...

Oprah is an intelligent woman and made her choice. You can agree with her or not. See you at the polls.
