| Public school sends out right wing propaganda |
|
My wife wrote to our son's high school questioning their religious holiday notations on school calendars.
She received back a document explaining some school policies, which was fine.
But also they sent a document from the "Pacific Justice Institute", a right wing organization.
"Pacific Justice Institute is a non-profit 501(c)(3) legal defense organization specializing in the defense of religious freedom, parental rights, and other civil liberties."
Is this legal? Can a public school justify their activities, and disseminate information from a non governmental organization?

| 1. Ignore it. The main question is does this school essentially endorse a religious holiday? |
|
Most public schools call it winter break/new year's break, I would guess. Do they specifically say the break is for Christmas observance? If it is, maybe it's time to call another non-profit organization: The ACLU.

How big is this school district? Do they have a legal staff?
I work for a large district and they never send anything like this out that the lawyers haven't poured over.

| 3. Only if it's been approved by the district |
|
Schools cannot send home anything that is not associated with the school unless the district first gives its approval. Individual schools cannot act as a single entity.
At least, that was the way it was when I worked in the Washoe County School District (Reno) NV.
Contact your district office and ask your question.

The schools are hard-core anti-freedom and anti-Democrat.

| 6. Both mine and my wife's school are celebrating Christmas |
|
Edited on Fri Dec-14-07 07:27 AM by Snarkturian Clone
and only Christmas. My wife went as far as to ask the principal and she said "Nope, Christmas." My school has had Christmas written on the calendar since forever, and we just got a memo stating when "Christmas Vacation" was. Did I mention all the Christmas decorations at both our schools? We're in a waaay majority dem city, by the way.
My wife and I are atheists of the apathetic type so it doesn't really bother us but I do think about the kids who are muslim and yahweh ben yahwehish at both our schools- they can't be enjoying it.
