Women shouldn't be referred to by their last names the way men are. Next thing you know, they'll be wanting to vote, wear pants, and hold down jobs outside the home.

2. But
she likes to be called Hillary. It's not sexist to refer to her the name she wants to be called.

3. I say Hillary so people will know I'm talking about her and not Bill.
Her own supporters call her "Hillary".

Well, I guess it was time for another round of "Hillary" vs. "Clinton".

4. Hillary or HRC or Hillary Clinton or Senator Clinton is fine with me.
Simply saying Clinton can cause confusion with Bill sometimes.

36. I was chastised for HRC
So I try not to use it. Glad to see a Clinton supporter uses it.

I meant no disrespect (the HRC part)

As for Clinton - I agree, shouldn't be used.

5. What is the problem?!
She's called Hillary because thats what she wants to be called. Have you seen her campaign signs?! I dont get why everyone has a problem with it if SHE doesnt. Please. There's been so much of this that its just getting silly.

7. NO.
I will keep calling her Senator Clinton to distinguish her from the President. If she makes it to the WH, she'll be President H. R. Clinton or President Hillary Clinton.

I don't buy that "Former President" descriptor, either. Once a President, always a President--at least honorifically! I will make an exception for that usurper who has been in the WH since the 00 election. He's just 'That Idiot.'

9. Well perhaps you should tell her campaign, because that what she refers to herself as....
... in all the literature, which is smart on her part. A lot of people, me included, still think "Bill" when we hear Clinton by itself. She's establishing her own brand identity, and that's not going to happen if she goes by Clinton '08. N'est-ce pas?

10. You may wish to inform her campaign. They refer to her as "Hillary" almost exclusively.
Her official site is plastered with the word "Hillary:"
http://www.hillaryclinton.com

And if you want to say, oh, she's playing the sex card: look at Mr. Thompson's site:
http://www.fred08.com/

If that's how she wants to sell herself, fine.

12. You know what, Bucky, I don't know what the hell to call her at DU.
People posts threads like yours complaining about this very issue, but it's important to note that she calls herself "Hillary" and I think most folks use that to differentiate her from the Big Dawg. I've taken to referring to her as Ms. Clinton so as not to step on any toes, but that's becoming more and more difficult and people complain regardless. Perhaps someone should post a poll, let DU'ers vote, and hopefully that will put this matter to rest. My opinion only, yours may vary.

Considering the celebrity worship here in LA, they both get about the same coverage.

That's the solution I prefer.

I am really sick of these threads when her campaign promotes her being called Hillary and when she NEEDS to be called by her first name to soften her image.
