Edwards on Clinton's Heels for 2nd Place in New Iowa Poll
Things are looking up for Edwards and Obama. Clinton falls down to 2nd and Edwards is picking up steam.

17. The main interesting is the question of whether hillary will be 3rd or will slip to 4th
She doesn't have a prayer at winning, and second place seems a stretch for her in her free-fall mode

11. these matchups are the only polls that matter
oh, sure, if dem voters prefer a loser, that is interesting data, but it does not make the loser a winner

19. polls saying which dem is leading with dem voters in a state
only tell you who may be likely to win that state's delegates.

They tell you nothing about who is a viable candidate. There was a thread a while back going on and on about most dems in some state or other picking Hillary as the one "tough enough to beat the republicans" and trying to make it mean something significant. All it meant was, given the opportunity to pick one name out of eight to associate with the word "tough," slightly over half of dems picked HRC and the rest were split amongst about half of the others.

Only when you ask a sampling of all likely voters to choose between a dem and a rep do you get a feel for the nation's opinion and the candidate's viability.

polling subsets of voters, whether geographically or by political affiliation, only tells you what that subset thinks (if that).

I could probably conduct a poll on my street and find that 100% of registered dems favor Edwards and Biden. But that would not mean they will be nominated, nor would it mean they would win. (My street would probably vote 18-1 republican). On the other hand, a poll that says Edwards would beat the likely republican in a national contest says to me, with respect to those promoting the glamor two; "what the hell are you thinking? I want to see one of these polls done with Biden. I bet he outperforms Edwards.

13. Kicking
because I like good news.

The Democratic Party is a BIG TENT, but there is NO ROOM for those
who advance the agenda of THE RICH (Corporate Owners) at the EXPENSE of LABOR and the POOR.

15. I've Always Thought
that Clintons lead was largely based on name recognition
and media hype. Now that people are starting to pay attention
her numbers will start to reflect her true level of support.

Kick & rec.

21. I think people are realizing she ain't so viable.
And that's before you take into consideration her voting record on the Patriot Act.

18. 3rd or 4th seems to be where she is headed.
Biden is coming up. She could very well come in fourth.

It is not today's numbers that are as significant as the TREND. If this TREND continues for a month, Hillary will be an asterisc in this campaign when it is all over.

Which kinda makes a mockery of all the energy we have spend discussing her all this time! Joke is on us, alright!

20. I think she's been a stalking horse all along
keep the right focused on their favorite target, get them all primed to savage her in the GE, get all their "HRC killed my cat" stories ready, and then nominate someone else. I think Bill, Hil, and Gore cooked that up a year ago at the Clinton fundraiser. At the time, I thought it would be to let Al stay in the shadows until the eleventh hour, his having "fallen out of love with politics." Now I'm not so sure about that part. It might turn out to benefit someone else. But the Clinton's could have the last laugh on the "vast rightwing conspiracy" even if she doesn't win, as long as she doesn't cause a rep to win.

Idle fantasy; no proof or evidence whatsoever. But is sort of explains why anyone who had gone through what the Clintons did for 8+ years would subject themselves to it again.

22. Hillary sinking fast
The Iowanians are onto the Hillary and Bill act. Too much clintonian-politics for hard-working blue collar, honest straight-forward folks of Iowa. Obama is their man now.

23. What I found interesting at that link is the "candidate characteristics" things.
Hillary gets 52% for most ego-driven, 21 percent for most negative (next closest is edwards with 9%), and only 14% for most likeable.
