Clinton Mocks Obama on Foreign Policy; Obama responds
SHENANDOAH, Iowa — Hillary Rodham Clinton ridiculed Democratic rival Barack Obama on Tuesday for his contention that living abroad as a child helped give him a better understanding of the foreign policy challenges facing the U.S.

"Voters will have to judge if living in a foreign country at the age of 10 prepares one to face the big, complex international challenges the next president will face," Clinton said. "I think we need a president with more experience than that, someone the rest of the world knows, looks up to and has confidence in."

Obama's retort: "I was wondering which world leader told her that we needed to invade Iraq."

Clinton's conclusion: "This campaign is getting kind of heated now. It's getting a little more exciting and intense."

"I mentioned that one of the reasons that I got it right when it came to Iraq was because I lived overseas when I was a child," he said. "It gives me some judgment and perspective around what other people think about America and how they might react or respond when we make some of the decisions that we do."

"Of course, both the Republicans, in their talking points, as well as Senator Clinton said, 'Well, I don't think that what Senator Obama did when he was 10 years old is relevant to our national security.' I didn't say that."

What complexity am I missing here?

4. B-I-N-G-O
Experience, schmerience.

Iowans certainly see it as simply as we do. That's why they value "new direction/new ideas"
over "strength/experience" by 55%-33% in the latest poll of likely Iowa caucus voters.

13. That permanently dooms her in this conversation
Her obliviousness to this reality is a thing of wonder though...

25. the complexity you are missing
is apparently, the fact that Bush was ultimately the one who decided to go to war.
Kerry and Clinton had plenty of logic behind their votes- the responsibility to secure full coalition help and properly inspect for WMD's was Bush's. It's not very complex but the purists tend to simplify it so Obama looks like some kind of really smart guy when in fact he knew nothing more than the Senate Democrats.

2. editorial opinion - don't see any ridicule in clinton's comments. or Obama's response. If they
want ridicule I am sure they can both do better than that.

5. At least he has a degree from Columbia in international relations
I don't exactly see where Hillary Clinton has more foreign relations experience than anyone else . She may have a few more years in the Senate than he, but she does not seem to have served on the Foreign Relations Committee during that time (correct me if I'm wrong), which he does. So unless she's trying to make us think that she has more experience because her husband had the experience ...

Well, I guess that is what she wants us to think. Bill's experience is hers.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a HIllary basher at all. But in this area, she should not get to lord it over Obama.

Of course Bill cleared it thru Hillary first before making the comment.

20. I think protecting Bush on this was a key part of their Hillary2008 stratagy.
Would Bill exaggerate to Dem lawmakers about what HE knew of Iraq to protect Bush, thereby protecting Hillar's chance at 2008?

15. Why Her Comment Is So (Typically) Deceptive
Clinton is pretending that we are all so stupid as to think that "living in a foreign country at the age of 10" was the ONLY experience he had with cultures abroad.

She doesn't say that he spent 4 years as a child, rather than just when he was 10 years old. She doesn't mention that he still has regular contact with his family in Kenya. She doesn't mention his international relations study in college.

Rather than arguing about his experience at face value, she tries to mislead us about his record.

If she had any sense of how other people live around the world, she would never suggest keeping nuclear weapons "on the table" to fight a handful of terrorists.

19. I think desperation is showing for all of them...
and their supporters....just look at this board...Hillary, Obama, Hillary, Obama, Edwards, Hillary, Obama, Hillary, Obama, Hillary, Obama, Hillary, Obama, Edwards, Hillary, Obama, Hillary, Obama, Hillary, Obama, Hillary, Obama, Edwards, Hillary, Obama, Hillary, Obama, and on, and on, and on....all day, all night. Someone post a slam about Hillary, someone else post a slam about Obama. Someone post about Edwards, all sides attack.

It's getting kind of worn out, don't you think? By the way, I think this stuff will wear out the voters too, regardless of who it's coming from, or who it's directed at.

21. Which is why Joe Biden may be a wind of fresh air in Iowa.
I wouldn't be surprised if Biden on caucus night pulls out of the bottom tier and makes a respectable showing there if this petty chattering between the top three doesn't stop.

23. shows to go ya --- as for HRC so much "experience" -- so little "judgment"
I have finally drawn up the matrix:

HRC - lots of some kind of experience; little good judgment
GWB - lots of some kind of experience; NO GOOD JUDGMENT WHATSOEVER
BHO - some of lots of kinds of experience; LOTS OF GOOD JUDGMENT

I still will take Obama over the rest of the field. Period.
