Edwards to join striking writers
From wire service reports----
Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards plans to join striking writers picketing outside NBC this afternoon, while several state legislators and City Council members are expected to join the picket line outside CBS on the 12th day of the labor dispute.
Edwards, a former North Carolina senator, issued a statement in support of the writers when the strike began Nov. 5, as did two of his opponents for the nomination, New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama. A third Democratic presidential candidate, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, issued a statement the day after the strike began.
"The striking Writers Guild members are fighting an important battle to protect their creative rights,'' Edwards said in his statement. "These writers deserve to be compensated fairly for their work and I commend their courage in standing up to big media conglomerates."
