There's something WRONG with BUYING votes.
It didn't take long, did it? I was perusing DU this am and saw how Edwards was at the TOP of the donor list. I picked up the phone and called a DU buddy and suggested that it wouldn't take long for the Hillarybots to BUY Edwards into the hole and PURCHASE her own lead. BWAHAHAHAHA! I projected that it wouldn't take longer than a few hours. How sad is that?

I suppose we aren't divided enough. Perhaps we can come up with a less divisive way in the future to fundraise here at DU. It's all about the money, isn't it? Power to the people. That is, if you happen to be fortunate enough to be the "people" with the cash.

I'm glad I donated during the last cycle so I don't feel compelled to participate in this nonsense. I suppose I could write out a big, fat check and buy Edwards his lead back but that's not democratic, is it? Hmmmm...

An election is not an auction. To promote it as such is irresponsible, even if it's being done as a promotional to fundraise.

10. Re-read my OP. That's NOT what I said.
It's really not a "silly little game" if members such as yourself are compelled to reply inferring that I'm a "EdwardsBOT" when that couldn't be further from the truth. Truthfully, it didn't matter WHO the 'frontrunner" was this am. It's the point as well as the predictability.

Good luck finding a thread that I posted in as an "Edwardsbot"...you won't. Tell me again how this isn't DEVISIVE. Just look how you came after me. It's that simple.

They are probably bashing HIllary so much they can't do anything else. I am disgusted with this type of fund raising and for this time am not going to donate 5 cents.

16. It's an amusing device with no validity in the real world. Good GRIEF.
If you're lucky enough to get a "Power Up" you can fuck with the standings in whatever way you want. It is a game, with a massive CHANCE element in it.

What you're doing is confusing an amusing little partisan fundraising game, designed to earn money for a website frequented by Democrats and Other Progressives, with no basis in REALITY, with an election.

This isn't an election, here, any more than it's an election when someone posts a DU poll asking who's the favorite.

You need to lighten up.

I think it's hysterical, amusing as hell, especially watching the candidates fly all over the page from one hour to the next--and the graphics are funny as well.

20. Actually, I'm not confused at all.
I KNOW EXACTLY what is happening and principles aside, it's a brilliant way to make a few bucks. I'm not denying that. The fact of the matter is...our country is in peril and I don't think a divisive fundraising ploy helps keep our focus on what REALLY matters. I've stayed away from here as of late because of all of the bitter infighting and "pitbull propaganda" that consumes this message board. I just don't see how this helps to unite us. It's just an opinion. Take from it what you will.

However, of course we're entitled to our opinion. We submit our opinions to the pool of ideas accompanied by decent arguments and reasons, and the best ideas don't sink.

33. DU is never going to hold hands and sing Kumbaya during primary season. Fuggedaboutit.
Every election year, the same shit. You don't need this funny little race to get a 'divisive' element involved--just read the threads.

You said you stayed away because of the bitter infighting and pitbull propaganda--this goofy little construct actually MITIGATES all that stuff, because it's a game of CHANCE. If you get lucky, you get to push your player ahead, and/or knock back the 'enemy.'

It's FOOLISHNESS. Silliness. That's all it is. It's entirely separate from the serious issues that face the US, but if we are going to play the Doom and Gloom card all day, every day, then this place really won't BE any fun.

AT all!!!!

Ya know, take this or leave it, but that IGNORE THREAD feature might help you with some of that "Infighting" angst.

24. Everything must be politicized
Edwards only had the lead because a power-up was used against Kucinich. This is just a silly game, anyone taking this as a strike against voting rights or some nonsense needs to lighten up. And before the OPer attacks, I happen to be an Edwards supporter, or am I an EdwardsBot I forget...

29. Compared to the relentless
attacks against such and such a candidate in the forums, a simple game to encourage donations seems pretty tame to me. Does the candidate that wins the fun run get anything? Do their supporters? At this point in primary season, there are few things people here are more passionate about that the candidate they support. Using this as a means to encourage donations seems like a pretty good idea. If this fun run somehow means something more to you, such that one candidate or another "winning" it has some effect on you, well then all I can say is I am sorry you feel that way.

39. Thanks for saying that, Tom. I felt nauseated when I saw it because it is so
reminiscent of what is wrong with our system. The whole idea of building a "warchest" and the media discussing who has brought in the most money without ANY SENSE AT ALL of how fucked up that is.

I know this money goes to DU, but honestly it feels very friggin' wrong to mix up money and voting. Period. Go and and tell me I have no sense of humor. I got a helluva sense of humor. But not this and not on DU when money in voting is so fucking pervasive.

Agreed and thanks for letting me know it wasn't just me.
