The story of Clinton not tipping: Tipping at a Republican event
Out here in Iowa we get a chance to see most of the candidates from all sides. My wife and I went to a Huckabee event early on at a small diner in a small town nearby.
It was fairly obvious by our dress that we were not part of the usual crowd. Everyone else was in some form of business clothing; we in tshirts.
Since it was lunchtime a small lunch was served, soup and a sandwich. After the dinner was over we hung around a bit since it is hard for my wife to maneuver in crowds. I left a $5 tip since the food was free. The waitress commented that I was the only one who left a tip. I replied that it was pretty obvious we were the only Democrats in the crowd.
I am sure that the campaign paid for the food and probably a tip. Just interesting that not one republican would give the waitress a little extra.

1. Bill always said Hillary was tight as a dog! Now I'm not certain
what he indeed meant.

3. I told this story to remind folks that while we seem to want to beat up our own
any one of our candidates is a by far better human being than those on the other side. I am getting sick of the Hillary, Barack and John bashing here. I am not a Hillary fan but all her supposed faults combined are far, far less than any of what exists in republicanland.

2. Fuck the Wait Staff
If they had displayed conservative values they might have gotten a couple well deserved quarters, but what do these people expect from people eating free food? A tip? For christ's sake, this is the land of the free. Let them get another job if they just have to buy that boat - how's that for a tip.

And don't forget to vote for the republican dumbass of your choice.

8. If they'd gotten a tip, they probably would have used it to buy alcohol.
VOTE REPUBLICAN

4. This is a ridiculous thing to take up a news cycle with.
I'm no fan of HRC, but I think that most of the upper-level politicos(of both parties) are probably
not good tippers. I am a barber in an area where I get to meet many politicians, including presidential candidates. It has been my experience that some of the worst tippers are the wealthy. Besides, I think many of these folks don't carry much cash, and may not be aware that there are bill denominations below $100.
Big-time politicians, in particular, rely on their staff to handle such mundane matters, and may not be aware when or if a tip is left for a hard-working waitress. It probably doesn't cross their mind.
However, I once had the honor to cut Gen. Wesley Clark's hair during his run for president. He was very cordial, and left a decent tip, as well.
That being said, seeing the MSM make a big issue of this incident with Sen. Clinton's campaign does nothing to raise my respect for journalists. I felt the same way last week when they felt a need to report on Mitt Romney having to borrow lunch money from an aide. Stuff happens. The only real good that may come of this is that more politicians may think about the average working folks in their orbit if they are liable to public exposure for a lack of consideration.

5. I hope everyone realizes that NPR has posted a major correction stating that
Edited on Thu Nov-08-07 02:22 PM by enough
in fact HRC's campaign left $100.00 in tip money (as well as paying the $157 tab, of course). Just that there was no tip money left at Hillary's seat.

The NPR story was wrong.

6. NPR has retracted this BS
They paid a huge bill and a big tip.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=16099751

Editor's Note: Since this story aired, Hillary Clinton's campaign contacted NPR to say that the campaign paid Maid-Rite a bill for $157 the day of Clinton's visit and left $100 in tip money. NPR contacted Maid-Rite manager Brad Crawford, who confirmed that a bill was paid and tip money was left. Crawford, who was not in the restaurant at the time, said that he believes a campaign staffer left the money with one of his employees, but "where Hillary was sitting, there was no tip left." Neither Anita Esterday nor the manager on duty that day were available for comment as of noon Thursday.

11. So useless
I've been to many an office lunch/dinner when the big boss (or more likely his secretary) takes care of the bill and tip at the end of the meal. I have never left a personal tip at the end of such a meal because it's already being taken care of. I'm sure HRC has a staffer that takes care of hotels, cars, planes, meals, etc.

What are we going to hear next? That she didn't tip the bell-boy who took her luggage to her room?

This story is inane. And I'm no HRC supporter.
