To My Gay Brothers And Sisters
Edited on Mon Oct-29-07 01:34 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
I want you to know that the vast majority of Democrats find the views of Donnie McClurkin anathema and that's why we became Democrats in the first place ...Please don't ever think otherwise.

With regrets for the vanity post

9. We don't have to be gay
to be offended by bigotry such as the charming speech delivered by Donnie McClosetCase last night.

13. It's okay
There are gay people who are saying the McClurkin story doesn't bother them, and they are still Obama supporters. It's true, but one would hardly know it from the hand wringing here.

Sorry my handwringing bothers you. I guess it would bother your beautiful mind to hear about the people killed in concentration camps as a result of unbridled bigotry.

16. Thank you, and I believe that what you say is true.
This issue is not about Obama. It's certainly not about Hillary Clinton or the primaries. It's just one more example of how bigotry against gay people is still accepted by some people in this country.

I believe that the majority of people don't agree with Donnie McClurkin's views. In fact, I'm reasonably certain that Donnie McClurkin himself knows that he's lying.

However, when decent and good-hearted people make excuses for bigotry or try to pretend that they don't see it, their silent acquiescence perpetuates the problem. It takes posts like yours - threads like these - where people stand up and say NO I DON'T AGREE for the world to change.

Thank you.

See: Thursday 25 October

Warning: Graphic interview.

Donnie is from a l-o-n-g line of hyper-religious reactionary hypocrites. Jimmy Swaggart and Ted Haggard come to mind...

19. I agree...here are some definitions of "liberal" from an online dictionary...
1. favorable to progress or reform
2. favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, esp. as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties
3. free from prejudice or bigotry; tolerant
4. open-minded or tolerant, esp. free of or not bound by traditional or conventional ideas, values, etc.

It isn't a choice to be a liberal and a bigot, is it? I am saddened that any liberal person would advocate inequality. Also saddened that liberal has gained such a negative connotation.
