NBC's Chuck Todd: SEIU-Iowa will endorse John Edwards tomorrow at 5:30PM
Posted: Saturday, October 13, 2007 3:08 PM by Chuck Todd

From combined NBC News reporters

At 5:30pm Monday ET in Iowa city, John Edwards will get SEIU-Iowa nod and the endorsement of other state affiliates, according to multiple sources. The endorsement, which the Edwards campaign refused to comment on, is key because it means that SEIU members and resources from other state organizations that endorse Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama (think Illinois and New York SEIU chapters) cannot help their respective Iowa campaigns, according to SEIU rules.

No campaign needed this organizational boost more than Edwards since he financially can't keep up with Clinton and Obama in Iowa.

2. This guarantees Hillary will lose Iowa.
That's a big endorsement.

3. As long as Edwards and Obama take the first two spots in Iowa
I'm happy.

4. I think they will
and that will be the end of Hillary's campaign no matter what the national polls say.

6. Only if she came in a distant third
I think if the top three are fairly closely grouped, or at least if second and third are, then Hillary could come in third in Iowa and still have a good chance of winning the nomination. But I agree that could make a real race out of this thing if Hillary came in third, even if it was close. Hillary has real support in many states. I think a third place finish for her in Iowa (assumning she didn't get trounced) would put us back into the old days when different candidates would do well in different states and no one assumed that doing poorly in one race meant that you were automatically in deep trouble, unless it was a state that you were supposed to win big.

5. Edwards and Obama need to "join forces" before the primaries.
Although either an Obama/Edwards OR an Edwards/Obama Presidency would be a Godsend to our Country, I believe that the latter partnership would be The TICKET to The Democratic Nomination. ;)
