So Now That The Threat Of Hurricane Season Is Almost Over The Oil Companies....
need to come up with their next bogus reason as to why gas prices will be going higher.

- threat of hurricanes minimized
- refinery upgrading mostly complete
- kids going back to school; vacation over; summer driving season over
- demand for gas down because of the high prices

by all indication - if Supply and Demand works - the prices should be coming down cause the supply of oil/gas should be up.

BUT

We're hearing that gas prices will be going up.

What is the newest excuse?

1. Hurricane Season almost, but not yet OVER
Not that the oil companies need an excuse but coasties keep their weather radio batteries fresh, water stashed and a keen eye on the gas guage.

Isidore - 26 Sep 02
Georges - 28 Sep 98
Lili ---- 03 Oct 02

They are brazen enough to just say, hell republicans need more profits.

4. I Did Qualify Myself By Saying 'Almost Over'......
I just wondering what the next excuse the oil companies are preparing us for when the price continues to stay high and go higher.

11. We are running out of oil
at least where it pertains to global supply and demand. There is news today about Mexico's oilfield production dropping. Meanwhile India and China are modernizing and upping their requirements for the black gold.
I don't expect it to get better.

3. Don't worry.
As soon as the hurricane season is over, I'm sure their pal Georgie will come up with some more terror alerts targeting the refineries, or something to that effect. Have no fear.

5. We're only halfway through the peak months
September & October are the busiest times and there is plenty of activity out there right now. Living on the water in Florida, I'm at peak vigilance right now.

12. haven't gas prices been generally in decline since the start of hurricane season?
Kinda screws with your theory, doesn't it?

http://www.washingtondcgasprices.com/retail_price_chart.aspx

And the forecasts I've seen suggest that retail gas prices are expected to hold relatively stable this winter (which, I admit, means that they won't decline as they typically do somewhat during the winter).

As for heating oil, the forecasts are that it could be higher than last year
