Murtha Says Democrats Will Pick Up 40 to 50 Seats
Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) predicts Democrats will win 40 to 50 Republican-held House seats in the 2008 elections due to inaction on the Iraq war, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Despite public disapproval of the Democrats' inability to change the president's war policy, Murtha believes the blame for the continuation of the war will fall with Republican lawmakers, who he believes will not change until next year's elections.

2. I pray he's right.
I'd love to see a Democrat take over Tim Murphy's (PA). He's going to be vulnerable.

3. I take this two ways:
(1) Better not praise the day before the night, but
(2) Maybe, just maybe, some Republicans will get scared enough to do the right thing and support Democratic efforts to stop this insane war NOW.

4. But then he also said GWB would pull out troops before the 2006 election

Murtha is better at predicting the future than, say, Dick Cheney, but he is not infallible.

6. I wouldn't be surprised to see ...
Democrats lose seats in the House. The leadership fails to realize that many folks voted Democrat ONLY because they wanted the war brought to an end. If they don't deliver, those voters have no incentive to vote for those Democrats again.

The numbers don't show this (yet). But it still makes sense.

On edit: The GOP is held is such low esteem, that we may still get the lesser of two evils vote. If so, its still a win. But certainly nothing to be proud of.
