Progressive Baptist women wary of Hillary Clinton's candidacy

http://www.abpnews.com/2738.article
Many Christian conservatives have put her in the “anyone but” category -- they’ll vote for anyone but Hillary Clinton. However, progressive Christians, who some think should be the senator's natural allies, aren't jumping on her bandwagon either.

...

In 2006, the United Methodist senator hired a Southern Baptist-turned-Methodist “faith guru” for her campaign staff. She regularly participates in an elite prayer breakfast with several well-known conservative policy makers. And she has spoken to historic African-American congregations -- like a recent address at First Baptist Church in Selma, Ala., for which critics accused her of affecting a Southern drawl.

Becky Garrison, senior contributing editor of Christian satire magazine The Wittenburg Door, says those efforts may not be enough. Garrison said her progressive evangelical and secular friends are “very disgusted” with Clinton, feeling she is too moderate and has compromised too much with conservatives.

And when it comes to faith, Garrison added, her friends tend to admire second-place candidate Barack Obama (D-Ill.) instead. “I think now is the time for her to be genuine and sincere about it,” she said. “Barack Obama -- his faith strikes you as being genuine. That’s what he is.”

Many progressive Christians are attracted to Obama, who has a more liberal voting record than Clinton. According to the National Journal, he earned a rating of 86 (with 100 as perfectly liberal) in a 2006 tally. Clinton earned a rating of 70.2.

I realize much of this article is just anecdotal, but I also think it offers some interesting insights into the progressive Christian community.

1. Her negatives are so huge, and so widely distributed... I can't imagine why in the hell
she is being supported by people who want a Democrat in the White House.

2. Please correct me if I'm wrong: Southern Baptist women are supposed to be subservient to men
how is this progressive?

5. There are a wide spectrum of Baptists. What you're talking about are the conservative Baptists
For example, Jimmy Carter recently left the Southern Baptist convention, partly over the issue you mentioned. He now belongs to a more progressive Baptist group.

10. "Conservative Russell Moore, theology dean at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"
I truly believe this snippet by Moore is deceptive, and has nothing at all to do with the views of progressive woman.
There is nothing at all PROGRESSIVE about Southern Baptist women, or even SB men for that matter. There are no Progressive Southern Baptists. Their views on progressives are merely plantation putty, dark and not pretty. So under this umbrella, Moore would not know a single thing about the views of progressives because his biased opinion comes from an extremely misogynist-appearing platform that holds woman in a derogatory position.

Going on the basis of the correct definition of "disinformation" - - sorry, but this fraud of a snippet poisons the entire article.

You said you "realize much of this article is just anecdotal". Why that's an even sadder comment than the Moore hit piece. My "grandmothers" (great and otherwise) were suffragettes. One in my direct line could not get into medical school solely because she was a woman. I feel that if women today do not respect the work these beautiful woman did for us, they are surely entitled to their backass opinion - - but maybe they should seriously think about going back to thier little corners, boil grits and bake cornbread in their brick ovens for hubby, don't wear even your flip flops (a very popular footwear for SB women) sticka pillow in the front of your "priase jesus t-shirt" when they are not preggy, realizing they really have no place arguing politics, nor do they have opinions that are relevant about a woman that is running for president, unless they state their honest opinion that women should not vote and run for office.

Masquerading true thoughts with unsalted words do not fool post-feminist women. The article you posted seems merely to bash Hillary.

3. So, it would seem that Hillary is not progressive enough for Progressive Baptist women.
That is something Hillary needs to give some thought to.
Did she compromise her principles, or is this who she always was?
