Biden Supporters: Biden's book hits bestseller list.
Sen. Joe Biden's recent success with his new book "has given him a new source of esteem," the Chicago Tribune reports.

"At one point this month, Promises ranked directly behind runaway favorite Freakonomics in the non-fiction category. To be sure, total sales somewhere between 8,000 and 15,000 copies don't promise an uptick in opinion polls. Prominent friends and longtime colleagues have helped to promote the book by hosting parties, promotion events where local booksellers typically offer copies for purchase. But an appearance at No. 15 on the New York Times best-seller list is a valuable achievement for the marketing of a book -- and a candidate -- even if it did only last for one week before dropping several slots."

2. I think Joe Biden
would be a disastrous presidential candidate but probably a damn good president.

3. Judging a book by its cover
Serves me right for being so superficial, but I saw the book in my local independent bookstore and rolled my eyes almost involuntarily. I'm way too familiar with Biden and his life partner, his Ego. As for the book, it looks like one of your dime-a-dozen pieces of campaign fluff. But perhaps it isn't?

12. And we are pleased and proud.
It is a very good book and is definetly not a piece of political fluff. If you haven't read it, don't give a review. Thanks Illinois
for being so thoughtful,Biden supporters appreciate it. We feel our purpose is to support Joe without bashing the other candidates.

6. It's not at all about his campaign.
It's about his life. Growing up with abundant love and support but short on money.
How painful it was to be a stutterer and how he overcame it.
Learning about civil rights as a teen while working a summer job.
Finding the love of your life and having her killed in a car wreck along with your baby daughter at the age of 29.
What it's like to have a Priest read you your last rights.

And how he accomplished so much in foreign relations, civil rights, women's rights, the Bork hearings, and security.
He takes you along as he re-tells those challenges - you feel like you were right there with him.

It's only in the last few pages of the book that this campaign is even mentioned.

This book is not fluff, it is insightful and enjoyable reading.

7. Thank you. I didn't mean to be a wet blanket.
The timing is certainly fluff (he is running for President, after all), but perhaps it is an excellent book. I know he's had some pretty big challenges in his life. Perhaps many readers will find his story inspirational. A lot of the people who make it into Congress -- especially the Democrats -- have some pretty extraordinary biographies. It's all to easy to forget this.

I do hope the dream of democracy and the call to public service never dies.

11. You don't run for president without that life partner
Let's face it.

I haven't read it yet, but a guest I have coming is bringing it for me. I'm particularly interested in reading about the circumstances of the IWR vote in 2002.

I'm happy Biden is having success with the book. :)

8. Biden will be on Face the Nation, Bob Schieffer's show Sunday
Haven't read his book, plan to. Great to hear it is doing well. Much is said about his ego which I don't pick up on. Is it because he did get lots of tv time for awhile? More Dems should have been out there stumping for the party. He seems plain spoken, blunt. His wife appears to be a real asset.

9. I don't understand the comments about his ego either.
I think Obama, Hillary and especially Richardson (all he talks about is himself) all have enormous egos.

Biden seems to have become more humble as he ages.

And I agree on Dr Jill Biden - she would make a great first lady. Intelligent, kind and beautiful.

10. Congrats, Senator Biden.
Think of it. Joe Biden writes a book, the book shoots into the best-seller lists, and th current president is subliterate.

14. I work at a bookstore
It's featured prominently in prime location, but I've yet to see one purchased yet.

However, that's an impressive listing for a Presidential candidate w/o much name recognition. I get to read it for free, so I might read through a few chapters.
