What is going on with al-Maliki?
Edited on Fri Aug-24-07 07:27 AM by Tab
It seems in the last few days there is a major move to discredit him. I don't know enough about him to say whether he is or is not capable, but I've just been surprised at the sudden burst of anti-Maliki stories. Is this a move to set him up for the blame for not getting Iraq together? Is this something else? What's with the suddent news attacks? He was our golden boy (hand-picked, yes), suddenly we're setting him up for blame. Is it just to have someone to blame other than ourselves, or is there something else going on?

Which was the whole point of invading Iraq, so the media has been "assigned" to discredit him as the first step to pushing him out for replacement by a more compliant puppet.

3. Juan Cole posts stirrings of a military coup planned for Iraq
here:

http://www.juancole.com/2007/08/military-coup-planned-for-iraq.html

They may be pushing this anti-Maliki propaganda to make their future coup look good. This will allow them to say after the coup how smart they were to get rid of such a monster like Maliki. Which I wouldn't have a clue if it is true or not.

I think if they were really going to go through with the military coup that it would take much more propaganda before they would do it. Right now it would look too bad. So maybe Dec-Mar time frame. What we are seeing now is probably just a hedge on them maybe deciding to do this.

6. Sometimes the names confuse me so I may have this wrong
I thought we installed al-Malaki, but wasn't Allawi our first choice? But regardless, we installed al-Malaki, so now we're tossing him...? As a scapegoat? What's going on?
