1. The "read" on that effort is that he was trying to salvage his OWN legacy, not Monkey's NT

2. As ever, you are correct, but isn't it also possible their
snake-mating dance has them so inextricably intertwined that it comes out the same either way?
Rove certainly illustrates the principle that one must not equate sociopathy with a lack of acuity. He hardly can be accurately called "evil," because evil implies a betrayal of a near sacred relationship between persons. It's all wrapped up in loyalty and patriotism and not necessarily all that easy to tease out the consequences of the varied courses that relationship might take.

Rove's sagacity demands that he be capable of reading the writing on the wall; even redefining unpredictable people with his new "the math" as a token,
The election of 2006 was not a fluke and, in Rove's words, the "snapshot" that it took was of the accelerating pace of anti-chenybushrovescootercrap.
His reading demands that he alleviate some irritations by physically absenting himself from the DC babblebunch, thus making it easy on the whole crowd.

His snake-like purpose and lack of comradeship with people in general is still firmly focused on ruling the world. We are being fed a line of shit. This is no retreat or recovery; it's the badly concealed next step in the saga. Beware!

3. I think someone kicked the snake in the head. He ain't that clever anymore.
He was a two or three trick pony, and he's run out of tricks. If he really were a sharp operator who could continue to change with the times, he wouldn't have miscalculated so horribly during the 06 elections. He would have been a step ahead of that mess, and cheated his way to victory while setting up smear factories for all those fighting Dems. He just couldn't pull it off. That's not a blossom on that turd, it's just a nasty old weed!

I think Rove needs to spend time with his lawyers because he's vulnerable, and I think he feels as though "others" around his boy George are gonna blame everything on him, and he's trying to push that off. At the same time, he's PLAYING the 'good soldier' and continuing to tout the Monkey's legacy, but his heart isn't in it. It's really all about limiting damage to his own rep. Good luck with that, Karl!!!

5. I beg to disagree with your narrow ...
notion of evil. It is quite possible ... as Hitler and others have shown ... to be evil in quite impersonal and explicit ways.

7. Point for pondering...
A snake doesn't really figure into evil in a mouse's world, except maybe as the ultimate evil. To a snake, a mouse is just McDonalds drive through.
Rove is as evil as he claims to have the broad human interest in mind. He is mostly the snake, eating mice and doing snaky things because that's what snakes do.

His evil shows up when he insists that he's not really a snake and he cares about what you, the voter, want and need.
As a snake, he is not evil, he's just a snake. As a pretend human being, he is evil, distilled, concentrated, mixed with hate and viper vomit, kill the world evil.

I'm not sure if I'm really ready to defend this point of view, but it sure provoked an interesting little discussion!

6. You bet we're being fed a line of shit!
Hoping to spoon feed the masses how wonderful the Bush Cheney Administration has been and the fault lies with those damn obstructionist Democrats stopping the revamping of Social Security to the disadvantage of Americans. He's as evil as ever and a the best spinmaster of all times. Carry a crucifix and a wreath of garlic when you make contact. Otherwise you may be mesmerized by the undetectability of his subtle ruthlessness.

10. Nope ...
Look what they have done in relation to Reagen ...

Iran-Contra, a completely stagnant economy, who was one of the all-time spend and borrowers and grew government like one of them there liberals, and just general blasse in the country ... HE CUT AND RAN in Lebanon, cut the deal with the hostages in Iran ... The man spent the last portion of his presidency in dementia ...

And, what do we have today, THE MAN WHO TOOK DOWN RUSSIA, an optomistic force who was the inpiration for the "conservative" movement and who the talking heads refer to themselves as a "Reagen Republican" ... Christ, it won't be long before the chisle his face onto Mount Rushmore ...

Look, this guy has been B A D ... But, the right wing's hold on the media is stronger now than it was 10 years ago, and it will be stronger in 10 years than it is now, sorry to say ...

They might not be able to completely turn him around into a saint like Reagen, but I can tell you for a fact, 20 years from now, he will be a resolute leader who did what had to be done during tough times, and suffered things out of his control and partisanship that other presidents didn't have to deal with ...

Sorry, that is the theme that has already been going, and it WILL be how he is painted ...

12. I respectfully disagree.
Even my wingnut colleagues and relations see the faults in Ronnie Raygun. Bailing on Beirut, having an idiot like Ollie North run things, etc. etc. Anyone who DOES say he's great, I tell them to watch one of his shit movies. :P

This (relatively) short-term positive blip will be ironed out by the time the REAL history books are written.

Why doesn't he have any time to respond to duly-served subpoenas?
