Poll question: Markos v. Harold Ford, Jr.
Snipped from the DKos homepage:

"I'll be on Meet the Press tomorrow morning for a "debate" with Harold Ford of the DLC. I'll be on Charlie Rose on Monday night. And I'll be back on the Colbert Report on Wednesday evening, where I'll be getting my ass handed to me by the master himself."

Who will you be rooting for ?

7. Democrats debating, get it ?
Kos the Progressive v. Ford the DLC/centrist

I'm not sure I get it either, because Howard Dean kicked butt at Yearly Kos. I'm rooting for the Democratic Party, so this "debate" should be good :D

11. YUCK - where's the "neither" option?
A DLC triangulator vs. an arrogant wannabe beltway peddler of cheap "conventional wisdom" - they can both go to hell.

34. I'm wid ya
I saw Markos' little snippet about Stephanie Herseth, as if the blogosphere cheering her had anything to do with her politics. People were just looking for a win, ANY win. Nobody cared one wit what she had to say or how she would be voting. I would bet a number of people who sent her money don't even know she's one of the Dems they scream about now. Two egomaniacs is what I saw on TV today.

12. I find it amusing that one of the few Dems to lose last cycle
and the only Senate Dem in a close race, is trying to lecture us about how to win.

14. that's not true
backed by Kos and the rest of the Netroots, Jon Tester and Jim Webb not only beat DLC-backed Dem challengers, but actually went on to win their races. And those are only two examples. I'll take that over the "I hate gay marriage too!" losing campaign of Harold Ford.

16. lol! So, if KOS endorses someone who wins, that means he's won something?

Did KOS recruit Webb or Tester? No.

Was he the first on their bandwagons? No.

he became a Dolphins fan AFTER it was clear the team was a winner.

sorry, we are not buying Markos's ex-Republican ex-CIA far left snake oil.

20. way to move the goalposts around
you can't deny Markos' role in promoting Tester and Webb. Also they weren't frontrunners when they were running against DLC-backed primary opponents.

Ford's "me too campaign" was a perfect example of how not to win. Blurring the lines and saying "I'm a watered down version of my opponent" is not a good formula.

Also fuck him for supporting Lieberman's independent bid.

22. You can't jump on a bandwagon then claim your drove it.
you can't deny Markos' role in promoting Tester and Webb.

But I certainly can deny he "won" the races as you've been contending.

they weren't frontrunners when they were running against DLC-backed primary opponents.

Tester was always the favorite among his fellow legislators. Webb was endorsed by Chuck Schumer and the DSCC during the primary.

27. That's simply not true
Tester and Webb were both in hot primaries and Webb's victory over Allen was nothing short of miraculous, where as Tester's win was also a hard fought win against a tough opponent. It would have been very hard to find anyone that "knew" Webb was going to win the morning of the election. Face it, we did something very right to have both of thsoe Senate seats.

28. what simply isn't true? That Webb and Tester were both announced candidates before Kos...
...ever heard of them? That Schumer and the DSCC endorsed Webb BEFORE the primary? That Tester was the favorite and had gotten the most endorsements from the State legislators?

What simply isn't true???

26. How many elections did Ford win to hold onto his House seat?
I think he knows something about winning. For a Black Democrat in a red/southern state Ford did an unbelievable job.

30. He repreented Memphis, a very very blue district
And he inherited the seat when his father had to resign due to corruption. Ford hasn't proven that he knows how to win much of anything just yet.

35. It's easy to win a primary when you have DSCC backing and token opposition
Edited on Sun Aug-12-07 03:24 PM by Hippo_Tron
Rosalind Kurita didn't stand a chance against him. Not saying she would've been better because she'll never get my vote after handing the State Senate to the Republicans, but she didn't have much of a chance in the primary.

Ford will probably jump back into Tennessee politics and could very possibly get elected Governor or Senator some time in the future. But even if it was close, a loss is still a loss, and Ford still has yet to prove himself.
