Edited on Tue Jul-24-07 05:21 PM by aquart
Now they won't let us import cheese.

On edit: Wait up a minute. Milwaukee's Airport????? Are you telling me this was domestic cheese?

Or could this be a deliberate Wisconsin plot?

Terror Bulletin Cites Milwaukee as Test Airport

MILWAUKEE - NBC News has obtained a bulletin from the Transportation Security Administration suggesting that there has been a surge in suspicious incidents at several U.S. airports.

The memo mentions several cities, including Milwaukee. San Diego, Houston and Baltimore are also noted.

The memo suggests that terrorists are conducting pre-attack security probes, pushing the limits of what they can bring through screening checkpoints undetected.

According to the NBC memo, some of the items confiscated during the rehearsals include wires, switches, pipes and materials used to make IEDs, or improvised explosive devices.

The notice says two of the incidents involved hiding the components in a block of processed cheese. In at least one incident, the device was connected to a cell phone charger, the memo says.

20. Yeah. I'm guessing Cheez Whiz or Velveeta.
The article mentioned processed cheese, which would make sense since one would have to shove the bomb components into the cheese, yes?

Or would these morons bother to cut a block of hard cheese apart, dig out a niche for the components, and then real-seal the block somehow?

28. What do you think the TSA announcements at the airports
will sound like now?

I remember sitting (for a long time) at the little airport in Missoula, listening to the TSA schtick over and over and over again; the part that sticks in my mind was the part about scissors--at least a couple of different kinds of scissors were mentioned. How many times can people bear to hear about cheese?

Also, I wonder...will they look into checked bags for cheese?

31. It has always alarmed me at how purely reactionary
the authorities are. Some guy tries to light his shoe on fire---> no lighters!

Somebody brings a dangerous liquid on board---> no liquids: no water, no eye drops, no hand lotion, etc.

I really want to believe that we have people working for us who are a little more imaginative and (although I hate the word) proactive .

They recently lifted the ban on lighters, because they were seizing something like 20,000 a day; after all, what do we do with that many lighters?

I don't know where we stand with the liquids at this point, but I guess I'll find out before I fly in September. I would not be at all surprised to find that there's a ban on CHEESE.
