If mccain Drops Out, Will That Be Good For A Possible Run By Clark?
Edited on Thu Jul-12-07 10:53 PM by Dinger
Just wondering here. By "good," I mean could it make Clark a "top tier"(I hate that term) candidate, or THE top candidate?

2. No, Not At All
I was thinking in terms of veterans running. If mccain drops, out, how many vets are left running for prez?
I should know that, but I don't. Of course, Clark would run as a Dem.

5. Why would a Republican dropping out be good for a Dem who isn't running?
Should he jump in their primary?

6. No
it would have no effect on Clark.

I doubt very much Clark is going to run no matter what. His problem last time out was getting in too late. He won't do that again.

8. If McCain were the leading candidate it would be better for Clark
Because we would need to ballance national security credentials.

In fact long ago there was a well written - but, at this point, totally wrong articel that said the winner had to have nationl security gravitas. He said the strongest candidates because of this would be - Clark, Gore and Kerry vs McCain and Hagel.

9. Clark said his biggest mistake in 2004 was getting in too late. It's too late for 2008, therefore,

assuming he agrees with himself, he's not running no matter what else happens.

At this point, only Al Gore has the money and support to enter the race.

11. Clark wasn't sufficiently prepared to run in 2004 without much more lead time
That has changed in positive ways for Clark this time relative to 2004. Clark was a complete novice then in electoral politics, with no committed base of support, with no political staff who he knew or had ever worked with before, and with no articulated platform of issues beyond opposing Bush on Iraq. Clark was only familiar to a relative handful of Democratic officials nationally then, and he had to spend a large percentage of his media time combating statements that challenged whether or not he even was a real Democrat. Had Clark entered much earlier he would have had the time he needed to work on overcoming those serious disadvantages. He needed more time in 2004 for all of those reasons and more. They do not apply in 2008. If Clark runs now he will be up to speed from day one. I think he has until approximately Labor Day to get into this race.

10. Clark is never going to be a "top tier" candidate.
The corporate media has already decided that the Dem nomination is a 3-way race.
