He hates lawyers, but he loves John Edwards
I just found out that my therapist's brother knew John Edwards from when they used to work together. So I reckoned a good question to ask would be what this person thought of him.

This was my answer: He hates lawyers, but he loves John Edwards. Said he was a great person to work with, very smart.

It's little endorsements like that which will lean me toward one candidate or another.

Is he a doctor?

12. I think she said he was a lawyer too. But he must not be a trial lawyer
or he's a lawyer who hates lawyers.

Or I've gotten it wrong somehow. I didn't get all the details down I guess, because our session had run a bit long and I was conscious of not taking up too much of her time. She just wanted me to tell Edwards that Peter says hello, assuming he's speaking at the Wisconsin Dem Convention and I actually get to meet him.

2. Hating lawyers is one thing. Appreciating them is another.
I'm a huge fan of lawyers, even though I fully acknowledge the existence of some greedy, ambulance-chasers.

The book (and movie) "A Civil Action" crystalized it for me. Here's an acquisitive, utterly unlikeable guy, who is doing a great service for humanity, even though his own particular motives may be suspect.

Let's face it: Going after corporations is usually a losing proposition. It's definitely a David and Goliath thing. They are much, much bigger than we are and with far deeper pockets. That's why I applaud those attorneys who take on cases against large corporations. The odds are against them. And if they don't win, they usually don't make much if any money. As a result, I don't begrudge their seemingly excessive winnings in the rare cases when they get them. Their effect is to keep corporations on the straight and narrow, regardless of whether they win or lose.

Unless Congress develops the spine to pass stronger regulations, lawyers like John Edwards are essential.

8. On the other hand
I once knew a corporate lawyer, one who defended big businesses against lawsuits, who was a genuinely nice guy. And a pagan, of all things.

Weird, that.

5. Wow! What an uncalled for nasty post!
I understand the OP's point. It is that someone who ordinarily despises lawyres likes Edwrds in spite of that fact because they had a positive experience with him.The OP is making the point that that type of info influences their choice. What is the problem with that?

10. What ARE you talking about, dear.

Ya lost me.

It was just a casual conversation. I told her that I was going to be a delegate at the next State Democratic Convention, and that Edwards might show up. She said, if he does, and I meet him, could I say hi from Peter, her brother, who used to work with Edwards. I think he was a lawyer too, just not a trial one. Can't remember, actually. Brain like a sieve, doncha know.
