Here are the rankings for the new "Election 08'" feature, which when you join it asks you to pick a candidate you support, on facebook:

1) Obama 19%
2) Paul 16%
3) Giuliani (R-did-you-know-I-was-mayor-of-NYC-on-9/11?) 7%
4) Edwards 6%
5) HRC 5%
6) Multiple Choice Mitt 5%
7) Fred Thompson 4%
8) Al Gore 3%

3. Facebookers are largely ignorant
They take everything at face value. I wouldn't read too much into Paul's high ratings. College students today are among the most apathetic ever and would rather play beer pong than effect real change.

6. Fun in moderation
As long as students can balance fun with intellectual progress, I don't have a problem with it. I have a problem with the fact that universities have become party zones rather than places of learning and exchanging of ideas AMONG students. Instead it's like this:

Professor teaches during the week
Students get fucked up when professor's not teaching.

let's not make blanket statements.

I'm a college student and I don't get "fucked up" when the professors aren't teaching. I've never even played beer pong (mostly because I don't drink beer and I have poor hand-eye coordination, but still).

9. Some universities are...
Mine wasn't. Mine isn't.

It was high school continued except my high school was pretty progressive (a PUBLIC school of course). Universities today, in my experience, seem to me to be just kids going crazy because their parents aren't around.

I can rant on and on about it.

But hey, when you're accused of being a fascist for being a progressive...it's not exactly charming.

13. Well, I guess it all depends on where you go
my school is very intellectual and mostly progressive, for which I'm very thankful. Obviously, people party, but my school has a very competitive academic environemnt, and most students are careful to balance work and play. Maybe it's because I go to school in DC, but even at keg parties, political discussion isn't uncommon. I remember being at a party the night that Rehnquist died - suddenly everyone was discussing what would happen to the Supreme Court.

I'm sorry about your experience, though.

8. But that's college for you.
That's how it was for me....I had fun but I learned a lot too. I graduated with above a 3.0, that's not too shabby.

Learning and exchanges do happen...it did at my school and I am sure that's the way it is for many colleges but then college is also a time to have fun, drink, be silly, etc.

10. Disagree
I don't think it's time to be silly when we're being screwed massively out of our cash, and then screwed again in the job market.

And learn at the same time....college is a kid's last stop before they become an "adult" and they should enjoy it while they can.

Also, I have loans, yes. But I don't think I was screwed out of cash by going to the college that I went to. I went to a smaller public urban school and I think I got my money's worth.
