Is Fred Thompson the next Dick Cheney??
Republicans and pundits want to brand him the next Ronald Reagan because he is an actor. But, some of Thompson's views are more like Dick Cheney rather than Reagan. They share the dark world view rather than Reagan's optimism.
From Raw Story;

Staunchly anti-abortion, pro-gun, pro-tax cuts, Thompson brands Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a "pirate" and accuses Democrats of "investing" in a US defeat in Iraq.

He harbors a dark world view of looming future threats to "civilization" which he laid out in a keynote speech in California this month, in which he warned of nuclear North Korea and Iran, and accused China and Russia of playing "aggressive international energy politics."

The United States' NATO allies, he warned, were slumbering through a showdown with Al-Qaeda's forces of nihilism and darkness.

In a recent blog post, he rebuked foreigners who don't like the United States: "our natural tendency is to tell the French, for example, that we'd rather not hear from them until the day when they need us to bail them out again."

4. That anti-French bigotry is so 2003
France just elected someone who's probably more right-wing than Fred Thompson himself. I don't get it what the hell these people's problem is with the French. Will they shut the f*** up already?

16. It's inexcusable at this point

Because now they're clearly not criticizing the French for their politics (if they ever really were), but for their very being French.

5. Well, he's trying to bail out Cheney's boy Scooter--wonder why?
He's really, really not a good guy. Total Neocon chickenhawk, who will take us into Iran next. I'll bet he will be more like Cheney than Bush.

10. Thompson is a Nixonite
The 2008 Republican campaign is going to be all about throwing red meat to the angry white assholes of America and Thompson is a pre-Reagan Nixonite, he doesn't have a prayer.

This is going to go to Huckabee or Hunter.

12. Huckabee or Hunter? You really think all of the top four are somehow
going to implode? Highly implausible (but I hope so!).

19. the mainstream isn't going to be a factor in the Republican race,
(Angry White Asshole)
Rudy: That guy lived with queers and dresses like a woman
Romney: That guy isn't a real Christian, they wear magic underwear and marry a dozen teenaged girls
McCain: He is a lib-uh-rul who betrayed out troops in Vietnam and I hurd he got a colored kid.
(/Angry White Asshole)

I don't know who you consider number four but Gilmore and Thompson can't raise a dime,

The Republican race is going to be about keeping the hardcore base happy as possible, their campaign is going to be a war on immigrants, muslims, women and homosexuals.

11. The RNC must have put out
a cattle call for more to enter the race. When I see them and hear them I think of them as trying out for the high school annual play. They could have picked someone off the street and would have done better. I imagine he or she would be much more interesting.

14. His comment against the French is pure hate-bait
He's playing the French card. That's the worst card to play because it makes you look like a moron.

What a bigot.

Imagine if someone said something like that about the Israelis or the Chinese.

15. Actors should not be politicians, however, if they insist on
entering civic life, I want them to at least pass a civil service exam like my postal deliverer has to. I doubt if *w or many of the others could. If Cheney passed the written exam, he wouldn't pass the physical IMHO.

18. The more I see of him, the more I worry that he could be even
worse than Bush. Just as much of a narcissist, but a much better, smarter actor.

He's a scary guy.
