Dean says Denver is going to be "transitional" convention. .."more relevant to average people."
He was in Denver today for a fundraiser at a union hall and to meet with convention organizers. He said some interesting things about his goals for the convention.

Howard Dean: This Convention Will be Different

DNC chairman Howard Dean said Thursday the days of the $60 million political conventions are numbered and he's studying ways to make them more relevant to average people.

Dean said politicians need to find more ways to connect with voters, going door to door, instead of depending on television to deliver their messages. He said next year's convention in Denver will be different.

"We've got to change the way we do conventions in this country. I'm looking to try to make this a transitional convention, in the sense that the day of the $50-$60 million convention is coming to a close. The day of one-way campaigns where we do everything on television, and we don't listen to people before, is coming to a close. We need to be knocking on doors, talking to them directly, asking their opinions," Dean said during an interview on the Aaron Harber show on KDBI-TV.

He also had a little more to say about the agenda.

Dean said next year's elections will focus on a new Democratic agenda that revolves around promoting fairness, fiscal conservatism and a defense policy that honors troops who died in Iraq while pointing out President Bush's stubborn refusal to bring troops home.

"The more the president tries to bully us, the more it's going to hurt his party," Dean said."

2. The best laid plans of mice and men,..

This is the 40th anniversary of the 1968 Democratic Convention. People in my circle here in Denver (disability advocacy, old rainbow family hippies and poor) can hardly wait for the fun. It's probably like the talk among the young folk getting excited for a G8 or something. Those old days were so much fun maybe we can get some of our childhood back and have just one more real good old time take it to the streets type of protest, demonstration, action.

Not sure what's gonna happen but I doubt it will have much to do with anyone's plans ahead of time - except TV's maybe. We don't get a lot of actions in Denver 'cept for Columbus day protests so this is our chance to bogey........

;-)

3. Well, I am all for disability advocates, hippies and the poor...
And I say rock and roll and have fun. In fact this anti-war protestor would like to be there with you. :hi:

This concerned me though.

""The similar sites redirect browsers to the Re-create 68 Alliance web site, which asks people to join in violent anti-war demonstrations like those that took place during the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago."
