Lamont Joins Kerry's effort to defeat four GOP senators

Lamont returns Kerry's favor in bid to help oust 4 Republicans

By Andrew Miga, Associated Press Writer | May 7, 2007

WASHINGTON --Last fall, Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., came to Connecticut to help Democratic Senate candidate Ned Lamont in his bid to unseat veteran Sen. Joe Lieberman.

<...>

"Last year, Connecticut Democrats heard my call for an end to the war in Iraq and nominated me to be their U.S. Senate candidate," Lamont wrote. "The pundits derided our campaign, but John Kerry had my back."

<...>

The Greenwich businessman joined Kerry's effort to defeat four GOP senators up for re-election in 2008. The pair is targeting Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, John Sununu of New Hampshire, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and Norm Coleman of Minnesota.

Lieberman, running as an independent, defeated Lamont to win a fourth term. He has endorsed Collins, a colleague on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

<...>

Earlier this year, Lamont struck a hard line against President Bush's plan to send 21,000 more troops to Iraq. He said he sent an e-mail to some 30,000 people, urging them to write lawmakers in their states to approve resolutions opposing the escalation.

1. Lamont and Kerry really showed their mettle against Lieberman and
the whole Republican support. Too bad other people didn't step up for Lamont too.

5. Clark did. Anyway, Lamont was up against 2 party machines.
Probably the highest odds anyone ever had.

6. Yes. I agree. Clark, Kerry, Edwards were the faithful to Lamont.
And the odds against Lamont were greater due to the complicity of the DNC who were attempting to 'hedge' their bets and as well as continue their incumbent protection racket.

Very disappointing! One can't help but wonder if they realize how much they blew it now!

Personally, I'm very disappointed that they haven't given Lieberman a peon leadership committee, like counting monopoly money, instead of the job they gave him. And I wonder why they're not demoting him given the fact that he's reneged on his promises.

2. That was one of very few elections
in '06 that bummed me out...I so wanted Lamont to win. I am glad to see he is staying in the political arena.

4. We found out who our friends were in that race.
The Lamont/Lieberman race made me like Kerry and Clark a lot more and Obama, Harold Ford and the Clintons a lot less.

Some people are loyal Democrats, and some people are loyal corporatists. We found out who was what, didn't we?
