1. How can we know that the SS doesn't provide inside gossip
and other information to the Republicans. Aren't most of these types of guys super conservative? Who are these guys?

3. There is no need to slam the Secret Service
They fought tooth and nail to not reveal anything when the GOP was gunning for Clinton in the late 90's.

12. Clinton was president. Times have changed.
The US attorneys were honest and not just political tools under Clinton. Those were the good old says.

14. Secret Service agents are straight up and very honorable
Edited on Fri May-04-07 10:01 AM by beaconess
Unlike U.S. Attorneys, they are not political appointees but are career civil servants who come up through the ranks. Those who make the presidential and candidate details are the best there are and they don't leak, they don't compromise the safety of their protectees and they aren't political hacks.

Leave them out of this.

6. Judge much?
Have you ever known any SS guys? I knew one, and he was about as far left as you could see. It helps to not formulate judgments based on assumptions.

13. The SS is the one area you don't staff with partisan hacks
Think about what would happen if Bush appointed Michael Brown to be head of the Secret Service.

2. BS!
Of course it was based on a threat--why else would they do it? It's waaaay too early for any candidate to be placed under SS protection.

This is a smokescreen...

7. Agree as well--maybe they don't want to encourage more threats
by seeming to respond dramatically to one in particular.

11. I'll see your B.S. and raise you a "TORO TURD!"
I just hope that the Bush White House didn't invent the threat so the agents can keep tabs on his campaign!

9. Obama Security
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18474444/

Federal law allows candidates to seek protection if they meet a series of standards, including public prominence as measured by polls and fundraising.

In a Feb. 12 interview with The Associated Press, Obama dismissed concerns about his own security, but would not answer directly when asked if he had received death threats. The Rev. Jesse Jackson drew early Secret Service protection because of violent threats during his campaigns for president in the 1980s.

“I face the same security issues as anybody,” Obama told the AP. “We’re comfortable with the steps we have taken.”
