Rice: Bush Would Oppose Iraq Benchmarks

By BEN FELLER, Associated Press Writer

Sunday, April 29, 2007

(04-29) 08:01 PDT WASHINGTON, (AP) --

President Bush will not support a war spending bill that punishes the
Iraqi government for failing to meet benchmarks for progress, Secretary
of State Condoleezza Rice said Sunday.

Rice's comments cast fresh doubt on a potential compromise between
the Democratic-led Congress and the White House in getting money to
U.S. troops.

With a regional conference on Iraq set to begin Thursday in Egypt,
Rice raised the possibility of a rare direct encounter between high-
level U.S. and Iranian officials. Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki
is expected to lead his country's delegation.

Rice suggested the president would not agree to a plan that penalizes
Baghdad if the Iraqi government fall shorts. To do so, she said, would
remove the ability of Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. military
commander in Iraq, and other leaders to do their jobs.

1. So at first it was they would veto anything with a timeline for withdrawal. Now, it's
they won't support anything with benchmarks for the Iraqi government.

For anyone that misses the point, this Administration attends to keep us in a perpetual state of war.

Before the Iraq war started, I remember someone on tv saying they were concerned we might make Iraq the 51st state. I wish for the life of me I could remember who said that, b/c their concerns ended up being very valid ones.

2. No Presidunce Left Behind.
Dumbfuck thinks our kids ought to be metricized into testable ignorance, but he should not have to meet any real defined objectives himself. Abject fucking failure ought to just resign now and get it over with.

3. "would not agree": Why not?
I mean, *Co expects full compliance in other areas, such as No Child Left Behind or Iranian nuclear disarmament, or else penalities will ensue. Your hypocrasy would be showing, Mr. Bush.

4. A turning point?
IMO, the American public (collectively known as the idiot masses), are finally beginning to see the light on Iraq.
For Rice to continually lie and spout the utter nonsense that she does is only fueling the fire.
When the idiot-in-chief does veto this bill, I believe the dam will break.

5. Excellent!
He's just setting himself up to piss off every military family in the country if he vetoes a supplimental troop support spending bill that meets the test he already set for it.

I hope he tries to stick to his guns with this one, because he will have a revolution on his hands if he does, and it will be his "supporters" that will let him have it.

6. The projects I am assigned always have milestones or benchmarks if you will
that is how I am evaluated, and determined if I am on schedule

That this administration does not want benchmarks is very telling.

THE ADMINISTRATION DOES NOT WANT ACCOUNTABILITY

Impeach the bastard
