Pernicious Republican Vermicious Knids
This week's hot blog topics: Republican call girls on call; Tom DeLay, Holocaust victim; Doan go there, Lurita! (The last days of Gonzo); Billo vs. Geraldo smackdown; and Imus finally dumped after digging his own hole. All this and more. Enjoy!

Imus: As Popular Today As The Sans-A-Belt Set

For younger readers, the Sans-a-belt crowd lived in the white-flight 'burbs, drank martinis, invented the comb-over, and played golf in Sans-a-belt stretch pants while their "little women" fought wax build-up and prayed to Betty Crocker that their children never had to go to school with minorities or ever look at them on a daily basis. They were the people who painted their lawn jockeys white and introduced their "colored" maids as a part of the family. They started becoming irrelevant in the 60's and faded into total ceramic-kitsch-kitties-with-long-necks status somewhere between Jimmy Carter and the fall of the Berlin Wall.

If you missed the latest racist/sexist bile from Don Imus and his trusty sidekick/producer, here's the video capture from Media Matters.

Poor old Imus! He just won't put down the shovel and back away from the hole, will he? Even after MSNBC announced ImusCo's two week (too weak, if you ask me) suspension, Imus continued to dig his hole... deeper and deeper. HeadSheaker.Com speaks for me:

Poor old Imus...

... just can't catch a break.

I guess he just doesn't understand "you people." Annie "Get Your Gun" Coulter doesn't think he should apologize. That ought to tell you something.

What bothers me most about Imus' pitiful attempts at apologies (laced with lawyered-up self-defense statements) is that his evil sidekick/producer Bernard McGuirk still has a job with CBS radio. It was Bernard who called the Rutgers women "jigaboos." JP Smith at Black MyStory notes:

What is so striking is the casual way in which they refer to black women as "hos" and use the word "jigaboo" so freely, as if it's part of their normal vocabulary (hmm...).

It really is part of their normal vocabulary, JP. That's the problem. And that's why Imus can't stop digging that hole... he started it because he has to call innocent people names in order to feel good about himself. Kinda sad, but going the way of the dinosaurs (and Sans-a-belts) is probably sad to some people... on some level.

After the Rutgers press conference, I found that "Imus" was Technorati's #2 blog topic (last Thursday there were only 7000 "Imus" posts tracked). The best post, IMHO, comes from clammyc at Daily Kos:

Fire everyone. WE are the new media.

Fire Imus for making racially charged comments. Fire Ann Coulter for, well, just about everything. Fire Glenn Beck for being a pig headed moron. Fire O'Reilly for lying. Fire Katie Couric for being a lightweight. Fire Matt Lauer for repeating GOP talking points. Fire Brian Ross for not issuing a retraction or clarification about the anthrax "evidence". Fire Chris Matthews, Andrea Mitchell and Tim Russert for being too close to the Bush administration and for not being up front and honest. Fire all of FOX News because, well, they are FOX News and aren't really news. Fire the WaPo and WSJ editorialists because they are right wing shills. Fire TIME because they put bible stories on the American version of their magazine, while all other versions have "Talibanistan."

Notice a pattern here?

Let's face it, there is a change happening.

And in the end, MSNBC has finally fired Imus. Who's next? I've got a list. How about you?

The Last Days of Gonzo

David Kurtz at Talking Points Memo notes that BushCo Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has been "hard at work" trying to coordinate the lies he plans to tell under oath about the fired US Attorneys. Here's the money graph Kurtz cites (from MSNBC):

At a recent "prep" for a prospective Sunday talk-show interview, Gonzales's performance was so poor that top aides scrapped any live appearances. During the March 23 session in the A.G.'s conference room, Gonzales was grilled by a team of top aides and advisers—including former Republican National Committee chair Ed Gillespie and former White House lawyer Tim Flanigan—about what he knew about the plan to fire seven U.S. attorneys last fall. But Gonzales kept contradicting himself and "getting his timeline confused," said one participant who asked not to be identified talking about a private meeting. His advisers finally got "exasperated" with him, the source added.

His advisers are exasperated? How do they think we feel?

Billo vs. Geraldo

Check out Oliver Willis' post, "Bill O'Reilly Loses His Damn Mind." Hard to believe, but it looks like Geraldo Rivera (aka Jerry Rivers) has begun the long journey back from the darkside.

BORE (Bill O'REilly) definitely crossed the border and moved deep into Jerry Springer territory during this meltdown, but I have to wonder if it was all just ratings related. As for Rivera, he's still the Capone Vault of integrity in my book.

Doan Go There, Lurita!

Justin Rood, now blogging for ABC's The Blotter, notes that The Office of Special Council is investigating General Services Administration director Lurita Doan's little lunchtime Power Point presentation as a possible violation of the Hatch Act. Possible? More like Pure D obvious. Here's an idea for you, Lurita: Stop lying. This time, it could get really ugly, babe. By the way, I wikied "Hatch Act" and found this:

Named after Senator Carl Hatch of New Mexico, the law was officially known as An Act to Prevent Pernicious Political Activities.

These Repubs are pernicious, all right.

WTF Is It Now? Another Vacation?

You just can't make this stuff up, can you? From WTF's Maru (Scroll down the page):

GOP slams president: cut your vacation short and get back to work

Ummmm, sorry, please replace "president" with "House Speaker."

Human cesspool matt drudge reports: gpuke leaders from both chambers urged Nancy Pelosi to call the House back into session immediately to finish its work on the bill for not undermining the troops. Text as follows --

Dear Traitor:

We are writing to urge you to call the House back into session immediately so that Congress can finish its work on the emergency legislation to fund The War Against Terrrism. You've taken enough days off while this country is at war.

Yrs in Christ,

Real troop-supportin' Americans

It's way past time for George W. Lame Duck to tweak that résumé, isn't it? With less than two years left to edit, Topple Bush http://www.topplebush.com/bushresume.shtml">has posted Kelley Kramer's original Bush Resume, along with the 13 pages of reader updates. Enjoy and add your own updates.

Republican Call Girls On Call

Found at http://www.glumbert.com/media/liegirls">Glumbert.Com (not to be confused with YouTube.com): "Republican Call Girls On Call." Watch it and enjoy!

Wasn't that funny? Don't you just love it when liberal women use snark to point out the... uh, talents of Republican women? I do. But how did all of those Republican call girls motor to and from those "dates?" Hmm...

Brother, Can You Spare A Limo Ride?

This is as hilarious as the video you just watched. From TPM's Josh Marshall:

This one's priceless. Remember Shirlington Limo, the slapdash outfit reportedly involved in ferrying Duke Cunningham, assorted bribers and sundry ladies of the night to poker parties over at the Watergate? They're suing DHS for "caving" to "political pressures" and canceling the company's contract to run its shuttle services. Stuff's tough all over.

Poor Republican Call Girl limo company. They're the victims? Here's another Republican "victim" now...

Meet Tom DeLay, Holocaust Victim

I have to confess a seething rage while considering Tom DeFreakingLay comparing himself to a Holocaust victim. So, I'll let NewDonkey http://newdonkey.blogspot.com/2007/04/motes-and-beams.html">tell the tale:

Given his amazing inability to see the beam in his own eye, it's probably not that surprising that DeLay is willing to go right over the brink and commit an offense that ranks right up there with Don Imus', not only cheapening the Holocaust by comparing it to his battles with the Texas justice system, but judging his loss of power as equivalent to the sufferings of those in the death camps.

Tom DeLay, proud Sans-a-belt guy.

Czars Belong In Russian Tea Rooms...

....not in the Bush administration. Bush wants a War Czar? What a stupid idea! OK, it's just the latest in a long line of stupid ideas from BushCo. President George W. Bush, commander-in-chief of the armed forces/self-proclaimed "War President"/the guy with a Secretary of Defense and some Joint Chiefs of Staff, is hunting for a War Czar? Robert Parry at Consortium News http://www.consortiumnews.com./2007/041107.html">notes that no respected retired general, even the one who came up with the surge idea in the first place, wants the job. Hmm. Bush will have to choose someone who's not up to the job. Sound familiar? Maybe more familiar than you think...

Bush's Yosemite Sam Temper Tantrums

A. Alexander at The Progressive Daily Beacon explains the cartoonishness of the president:

Bush's handlers "reckon" that kinda tough talkin', spur clangin', shot-O-whiskey slammin', Yeehhh-Hhhaawin' showdown at the Okey-Dokey Corral stuff makes the self- proclaimed 'Decision Maker' look like one tough hombre. But it doesn't.

(snip)

George W. Bush doesn't look like a tough guy when he calls press conferences and utters silly threats and gibberish...it makes him look like Yosemite Sam AFTER Bugs Bunny has him so flabbergasted that he's on the verge of blowing off his own face with his own pistol.

Great analysis, A.! I thought Bush was just a plain old punk, or - as this pic from my blog, Delilah Boyd, hints - Bush is drunk most of the time:

Imagine how sad it must be that no one in your life cares enough about you to help you overcome a disease like alcoholism. Or ever cared enough about you to teach you any manners. Now that's pathetic. Speaking of pathetic...

How Much Would You Pay For A Warm, Fuzzy Katie Couric Library Card Story?

We could ask CBS' Katie Couric, but she was so willing to read the plagiarized story provided by her Wall Street Journal-reading producer - on national TV - that she forgot to make sure it was actually about her own life. How's that for stupid? Hughes For America's thoughtful response deserves a gold star.

I don't know what's worse, really. The fact that what Couric was reading was stolen from another piece. Or the fact that Couric is so amazingly absent from the nuts and bolts of her profession. But, I suppose her profession never really was journalism, was it?

Nope. Nowhere near journalism, Bob.

Thank A DUer!

Thanks to politicaholic for rewriting the New York Times story of John McCain's trip to the Baghdad market. Here's a snippet:

John McCain's Flying Circus!! Weeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! (warning: spine tingling image)

In the movie of John McCain's life, he will be played by Dame Judy Dench.

Read the rest of the post. It's a keeper. Oh, and... thanks, politicaholic! From now on, I'll have to live with that McCain/Dench resemblance. You owe me! Big time.

Thanks to Sparkly for this fabulous catch:

Giuliani: "I don't agree with me on everything"

"I tell people what I think. I tell them (to) evaluate me as I am and do not expect them to agree with me on everything. I don't agree with me on everything," Giuliani said. "If that's the most important thing, then I'm comfortable with the fact you won't vote for me." Link

Apparently he didn't elaborate to explain which things he disagrees with himself about.

Apparently, McCain is an idiot. A pernicious idiot, but no less an idiot.

Is Bush auditioning for a Head On! commercial? Many thanks to Blogslut for noticing yet another Bush pattern of behavior:

Pathetic. As if anyone would ever believe that this guy actually thinks about what he's saying.

Thanks to chieftan for this excellent analogy:

"You can't prove I did it, so you can't start an investigation"

This is the current bit of twisted logic being used by the GOP and swallowed whole by its co-conspirators in the corporate media regarding the US Attorney scandal. What criminal wouldn't love police to operate under the same standard? You can't ask me any questions unless you can prove that I committed the crime. The brazenness of these crooks takes your breath away.

Brazen, indeed. And pernicious. And hungry to play society's victims. And probably lusting after their closets full of beloved Sans-a-belt pants. The times, they are a'changing, y'all. Slowly, to be sure. But changing. That being said, today's pernicious Republican Vermicious Knids are capable of... well, just wiki the fictitious Roald Dahl term, and here's what you get: "Vermicious knids are a species of amorphous, shape-shifting monsters..." Hmm. If you come up with a better definition of this current crop of Republicans, let me know. Until next Friday, keep fighting the tightie righties!

1. Couric's notebook seems to be having a lot of troubles
Edited on Sun Apr-15-07 07:13 PM by ProgressiveAmPatriot
You ask for submissions, well Couric's notes seem to be copied fairly regularly. Another one of her notebooks made it onto my blog this week for repeating thoroughly debunked myths: http://progressiveamericanpatriot.blogspot.com/2007/04/early-april-quest-for-pulitzer-in.html
