Lieberman is backing Susan Collins in 08
"Does This Surprise Anyone? National Journal’s CongressDaily reports that Joe Lieberman (I) is backing Sen. Susan Collins’ (R) re-election bid no matter the Democratic nominee -- even though Democrats are targeting her seat. "I would just feel that I was not being honest to myself and everything I've said about what our politics should be like now if, for partisan reasons, I didn't support somebody who I think is a great senator,” he says. Does McCain become Lieberman’s second GOP endorsement in ‘08, if he wins the Republican nomination?"

Thanks Joe, you a-hole, don't let the door hit you on the way out...

34. He is bad - but there are many that are more hated (all of bushco)
if one limits to just the Senate I would venture to throw out a couple of names: McConnell, Inhofe, Lott, frmr maj leader Frist (though no longer in the Senate)....

But among politicians who once had a D by their name - I would say that Lieberman is only behind Zell Miller in that catagory.

4. And this is why we need a bigger majority.
And I don't care if means replacing Repubs with Ben Nelson type senators. The bigger a majority we have, the less power Joe has.

21. People like Ben Nelson at least vote for cloture on the Democratic agenda
They may vote against the actual bill on many issues, but as long as we have 51 votes it doesn't matter. The key is getting 60 for cloture and the fact is that regardless of ideology, Democrats will vote for cloture on Democratic bills and Republicans will vote against cloture on Democratic bills.

19. To be fair, the guy in my avatar broke his term limit promise
I really wish people just wouldn't make that promise in the first place. Once they realize how slowly things get done in the Senate, they will want to run for a third term.

12. 2 percent
Maybe she'll switch and become an "Independent." Then, the Lieberman Party would control 2 percent of the Senate.

However, between her backing of Bush and your backing of Susie maybe people will get the point! Time to fire her.

13. Two Seats
That's what I want in 2008. Just two more Democratic seats in the Senate so we can kick this asswipe to the curb and tell him to go caucus with his friends in the Republican Party.

14. How do DU's DLC/Hillary supporters reconcile Joe's continued association with the DLC?
Edited on Fri Apr-13-07 12:52 PM by Dr Fate
Even if this article turns out not to be true, the question stills stands.

Considering DU's new rules about advocating for 3rd parties, I realize it is a touchy question. But if this is true, now we have the DLC tolerating and giving resources to not just a 3rd party, but a person who endorses a Republican.

Fact is, many CURRENT DLC memebers openly supported Lieberman AFTER the primaries-including elected DLCers. It's also true that several DLCers here at DU passionately supported and defended him.

As well, several prominent members of the DLC currently work on Lieberman's staff.

I like to see more DUers join me in taking DU's DLCers to task over this.

If team DLC/Hillary is going to be our nominee, I think they need to adress Joe's connections to their organization, and I'd like DU's DLCers to exaplain why this is okay as well-especailly considering the rule against 3rd parties- much less endorsing Republicans.

28. Wasn't openly supporting Lieberman banned here at DU?
Yet I constantly saw DLCers posting messages of support for Lieberman after he lost the primary, without even so much as a deletion.

Kind of makes you wonder what other rules the usual suspects get away with breaking...

30. Dr. Fate: What does this have to do with Hillary?
Edited on Fri Apr-13-07 08:40 PM by AtomicKitten
It's hard to believe good intentions when you persist in dragging in extraneous comments and extrapolations with no dots to connect for the sole purpose of slamming a candidate you don't like.

You will attract the usual blow-hards that don't mind the detour, but your drive to punctuate and belabor Hillary + DLC is a one-note campaign reminiscent of Joseph Goebells.

Perhaps you can just put it in your sig line instead of hijacking threads for nefarious purposes.

20. No- if true, it is a very big deal. especially since Joe is tied at the hip to Hillary's DLC.
Edited on Fri Apr-13-07 01:02 PM by Dr Fate
If our projected nominee is a member of an organization that also provides employees for Republican endorsing 3rd parties, whose prominent, elected members and employees, bloggers, etc. publicly endorse or tolerate a man who is working with Bush's Republicans, I think we need some explanations here.

and there isn't a chance in hell I could vote for her in the primaries (more of a hold your nose very tightly to vote for her in the general election kinda thing), but she doesn't even come close to Joe.

He's in a class of his own when it comes to true scuminess.

And it's worth noting that she was among the first that said she would support whomever got the Dem. nomination in CT for the senate seat.

24. Dear Sen. Lieberman: Would you please, please consider endorsing Sen. John Cornyn here in Texas?
He is a very bad Senator and Texas is a very red state, but with your endorsement of Sen. Cornyn, I think we would have much better chance of beating him in the upcoming election.

Sincerely,

Tejanocrat
