Economic Report: Unions Have Improved Economic Conditions For All Workers

Economic Report:

By Doug Cunningham

Unions have made workers better off economically while raising working standards for non-union workers, too. According to the Economic Policy Institute, union workers make 14.7 percent higher wages, are more likely to have pensions and employer-provided health insurance and get more paid time off. Unions won the 8-hour day and helped America abolish child labor, establish workmen’s compensation and protect workers’ health and safety on their jobs. Unions also played a strong role in creating social security and unemployment insurance for all U.S. workers.
