Dean in Denver says "new Dem majority does not get a free pass...we want change."
(Chairman Dean, speaking for the "Democratic wing of the Democratic party." Thank you, Howard Dean! Can't wait for the DLC's Al From's response.)

No place all red on Dean's map

"We want change. It wasn't about the Democratic Party. It was about the country."

Democratic chairman Howard Dean says having Denver as host city for the 2008 convention fits the party's 50 State Strategy, signaling Western voters that the party appreciates their values and wants their votes.

St. Davids, Pa. - Democratic chairman Howard Dean was nearing the end of his visit to a Christian college here when, finally, he provoked a response from his evangelical audience.

It wasn't by offering, though he did, to find common ground with religious conservatives on matters such as abortion, AIDS and welfare. What warmed the crowd at Eastern University was the party chairman's blunt warning to the new Democratic majority in Washington.

"You don't get a free pass," Dean said. "Our object was not to get you into power because we are Democrats - our object was to get you into power so you actually do something," he said. "And if you don't, we are not going to stand up and keep you.

"We want change. It wasn't about the Democratic Party. It was about the country."

And at that glimpse of the authentic Howard Dean - the outlaw Howard Dean - the Baptist students started to cheer.

3. I'm glad he was there to talk to those Christians.
We the People (not the political parties) have more in common with real Christians than they think.

The phonies in the Pro-Life movement have used their supporters for nothing more than corrupt political advantage. They have harmed their values and caused a War. It is time for new honest leadership in the Pro-Life movement to work with the Liberals and the Peace and Social Justice movement.

I also want something more from Pro-Choice leaders (more than just insuring their jobs). They should be subjected to the same evaluations as Dean describes for the Democrats and by extension for any political party. If Pro-Choice leaders can't demonstrate an ability to work with Pro-Life, I, for one, want new leadership, because there would be more solutions if Pro-Choice and Pro-Life would compartmentalize their differences and get together and pursue their common interests. For example, I know what the arguments against Parental Notification are, but I don't accept that those problems preclude some appropriate form of Parental Notification.

5. strange for you to spin this as anti-DLC
since Dean's 50 state strategy helped to elect here in Colorado pretty much all DLC/Blue Dog Dems in the last election...

btw - this speech isn't from Denver, it was made in PA.

9. just as Dean says, they don't get a free pass - neither does Dean
And since WHEN is supporting unions outside of the mainstream of the Democratic party? Even conservative Democrats support unions. The day the Dems are anti-union is the day they don't get my vote (and I am hardly alone in that).
