The Real Meaning of Obama's Money — Al Gore?

The Real Meaning of Obama's Money

Obama's spectacular first-quarter fundraising performance has clearly shaken the Clinton camp, but it may not just be for the obvious reason.

According to a well-connected Democratic operative, Team Hillary is less threatened by Obama than by the possible entry of Al Gore into the race.

That's the real reason why the putative frontrunner's strategy has been geared toward bulldozing the field early on -- to scare Gore off.

And that's why, under this theory, Obama's early money might is so problematic for Hillary. The more strength Obama shows, the weaker she looks. And the muddier the race gets, the more inviting it is to Gore.

i will wait for my presidentgore to stand up...he is the only one in my opinion that can fix the mess we are in as a nation!! and that's alot of fixing for a horrible mess..and i think he is the only one who can not be beat!!

When and if Gore jumps in..it will be a tsuami of support for him among all dems i know!!

I think it is brilliant for Gore to wait though for Hillary to implode ..

just my 2 cents..and this is not meant to flame..but i want President Gore!!

5. "The more strength Obama shows, the weaker she looks"
Isn't that kind of obvious? Did anyone really donate money to Obama just to scare off Gore?

35. Welcome! - the OP doesn't say contributors to Obama
weren't sincere. They just show that Hilary is not that strong, and the weaker she is the more likely Gore will step in - or so the article speculates.

9. The real meaning
The real meaning is that big business can get behind a black man or a white woman and that's a good thing. Social change can be claimed to exist all you want but when you actually have a black man with a chance of being elected president of the united states you can see how truly far the black people have come towards equality.

13. I have.
The two people who have asked me to donate have
done so because they are anti DLC, and don't want
to be steamrolled by the Clintonians.

I can't say I haven't been tempted.....

21. I donated because I like him, too.
If Gore were to enter, I'd be thrilled. I am inspired by Obama, not so much by Edwards, and not at all by Hillary. However, I would not have donated to anyone just because they aren't Hillary - not this early, anyway. Or, I would have donated to both Edwards and Obama because they "aren't Hillary". I like Obama - it's that simple.

I don't think the article's disputing that.

37. I've NEVER in my life
given money to a campaign but if Gore DOES enter I'm sending a C-note (big spender huh?)I finally through the help of somebody here have figured out when exactly I started pretty much hating Hillary Clinton. It was the day that John Kerry botched that joke and how quick she was to condemn him-since then for me, it's ANYBODY but Hillary

38. I used to give $$$ all the time but haven't since Kerry 2004.
I'll vote for whomever the nominee is but Hillary is a train wreck (as a candidate, I think she'd make a fine President) and I'm not sure Obama would be much better.

30. Have to wonder what the agenda is of Lieberman's spokesman (during the campaign - and still
a paid staffer). If this is the same Gerstein, this is the guy who proudly put on his consulting firm website that *he* was the author/gave input to Lieberman's famous finger wagging speech shaming President Clinton during the Lewinsky hullaballo. Ya - this is a voice that I would give great credence to, without trying to check/understand the agenda...

36. Gore Entering would be good for Obama and bad for Hillary
I think Gore and Hillary will look like the establishment candidates and vie for the establishment money. Obama gets the new and anti-establishment money.

I don't think Gore or Hillary would survive the money race if both are running. Gore could replace Hillary if it gets too muddy but both of them running will give it to Obama.
