More Republicans switching affiliation
By Mike Joseph - mjoseph@centredaily.com

Retired Penn State staff assistant Carol A. Spangler, of State College, a registered Republican for more than four decades, switched to the Democratic Party two months ago because "I just don't want to be known as a Republican right now."

Boalsburg resident Gregory Mussi, regional director of building code enforcement, changed his registration two weeks ago from Republican to Democratic "out of disgust" and because he's "disenchanted" with some aspects of federal government.

And Penn State professor Rayne Sperling, a registered Republican all her life until January, made the move to the Democratic Party because "I just felt the time had come."

Spangler, Mussi and Sperling aren't alone. They joined a growing number of people in Centre County and across the state who have left the Republicans for the Democrats as the war in Iraq grinds on and the nation's political leaders argue fiercely over what to do about it.

Centre County Republicans hold a 44 percent to 38 percent registration advantage over Democrats, and some Democrats have become Republicans in the year's first 13 weeks. But more than twice as many Republicans have become Democrats.

From Jan. 1 to March 15, for example, a total of 70 Centre County residents switched from one of the two major parties to the other. Forty-eight Republicans became Democrats -- Spangler, Mussi and Sperling among them -- while 22 Democrats became Republicans, county records show.

3. Good, history repeating itself..
when Repubs changed to Demos years ago..

Hopefully, Spangler, Mussi and Sperling apply pressure to their Congresspeople to do the same!

4. "...we are still the party of Reagan and still a party aware of moral integrity."
Yeah, good luck with that.

On a side note, the Duffy's Boalsburg Tavern is wonderful. One of the many reasons to love PA - historic taverns!

5. Reagan
ain't he the guy that ordered the murder of priests and nuns and children from the oval office, said deficits didn't matter and fed school children ketchup for lunch? I don't support that so I'm just an immoral fucking liberal and can't be in the party of reagan.

Iran contra was a criminal undertaking by criminals led by the lead criminal ronald reagan, but there is no evidence any of them got a blowjob.

8. I'm sorry - I keeping forgetting a blowjob is the worst crime in the world.
Is there a table that shows the relative criminality of blowjobs compared to things like lying us into war, committing treason to support a war, creating war heroes out of friendly-fire incidents to advertise war, creating a war to bankrupt the treasury and make your friends rich in the process, or selling drugs for weapons and weapons for drugs to overthrow a government?

9. Why would the 22 Dems switch?
What are they thinking? It's great that the Republicans saw the light, but my gladness is tempered by the Democrats switching. I just can't get my mind around it.
