U.S. Judge Blocks 1998 Law Criminalizing Web Porn That Reaches Kids

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- A federal judge on Thursday dealt another blow to government efforts to control Internet pornography, striking down a 1998 U.S. law that makes it a crime for commercial Web site operators to let children access "harmful" material.

In the ruling, the judge said parents can protect their children through software filters and other less restrictive means that do not limit the rights of others to free speech.

3. true. But my point was that I don't really agree with the idea of
internet censorship. I'm fine with cracking down on predatory behavior and child pornography, etc. but I kind of like the way the internet is as far as a medium of communication for many.

The more people insist on control, the more it will become like TV: beholden to corporate interests. It's like the idea of people giving up Constitutional rights and other freedoms for security. While I understand the motives, I don't agree with the enaction.

Honestly i am not that familiar with this case, so maybe I am speaking out of my butt, and I don't want to come across as attacking you because I am not.
