Let's make believe for a minute that Bill and Hillary never got married.
Hillary Rodham would probably have been President by now. :smoke:

2. President of her college maybe
Edited on Mon Mar-19-07 10:09 PM by IChing
I will give you that.
President of Wal-mart since she was on the board,
Or maybe a Republican president since
if she had not met Bill she would have continued in her Republican ways.
Wait, she did.

4. Actually, she was a Democrat before she met Bill
Hillary left the Republican party when she was an undergrad at Wellesley; she and Bill didn't meet until they were at Yale Law together.

3. Doubt it
She'd be having an easier time of it certainly, but it's questionable if either of them would have been able to attract so much attention or make themselves heard as individuals.

is what I'm hearing.

I loved the '92 convention, with that lame song and they were holding hands.
And Al and Tipper were there. One big happy Liberal Family :D

What happened next?

6. It's possible
I have no doubt that she would have been successful in whatever path she chose, regardless of Bill. Bill himself has said that he thought she had a bright future ahead of her and that he felt guilty that she followed him to Arkansas. This is what he said at a fundraiser last night:

"About a year, two or three months after we met I tried to convince Hillary to leave me," he said. "She said, 'Don't you like me anymore?' And I said, 'No I love you but when we get out of law school I'm going home and I don't have a job and I don't have an income, I'm up to my ears in debt, I have no idea what I'm going to do but I have to go home and try to get into public life or I will evaporate."

Bill Clinton said he encouraged Hillary to pursue her own goals in Chicago or New York.

"I've now met all the best people in our generation," he said he told her, "and you're the best. You've got the best combination of mind and heart and ability to make decisions and feel the human consequences of it than anybody I've ever seen."

9. I agree
Hillary didn't have ambition to be in public office
Bill did. Without Hillary the best he might had accomplished was Governor. Maybe he would had become Senator and then VP before becoming President. A longer route.

Hillary's ambition was IMO driven by years in public life as the First Lady in Arkansas and then in the WH.

If Eleanor Roosevelt had been born in our time and her husband had been President she would had been a good candidate for President. Whether she would had accepted knowing the slime the other side would had thrown at her is debatable. Eleanor was more than just a First Lady.

11. Eleanor Roosevelt
After Teapot Dome, a relative of Teddy's was running for office against FDR. She followed him all around upstate New York with a teapot on the top of her car to remind people of the scandal. Eleanor had no problem with hardball politics!

8. That is like saying, if JFK had never been president,
then Bobby Kennedy or Teddy would have. Maybe so, but it's impossoble to go back and recreate that much history. Joe would have kept pushing his boys to run, but it's hard to say now what might have been, just like if fucking sirhan had let Bobby live, what would have happened?
