.Pelosi drew a smattering of boos........AIPAC meet up

.........Pelosi drew a smattering of boos Tuesday when she called the Iraq war a failure in remarks to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, which lobbies on behalf of Israel.

Several officials said there was widespread opposition to the proposal at a closed-door meeting last week of conservative and moderate Democrats, who said they feared tying the hands of the administration when dealing with an unpredictable and potentially hostile regime in Tehran.

Public opinion has swung the way of Democrats on the issue of the war. More than six in 10 Americans think the conflict was a mistake — the largest number yet found in AP-Ipsos polling.

But Democrats have struggled to find a compromise that can satisfy both liberals who oppose any funding for the military effort and conservatives who do not want to unduly restrict the commander in chief.

1. false labeling
This is NOT a liberal v. conservative issue.

It's an issue of humanity and well-thinking.

2. "drew boos... when she called the Iraq war a failure"

Did they also boo when she said the sky was blue? Clearly AIPAC are a bunch of freaks.

I'll say it again: The US and Israel face a serious common menace - the neocons.

7. The Neocons
The neoconservatives are a threat to more than the US and Israel. They are a threat to everyone.

Being that they are a threat to others and themselves, they should be hospitalized immediately. Is there a mental ward at Walter Reed?

5. Amen - and it is showing more and more.
People finally seem to be catching on to this "lobbying" group.

Not only will they hold on until the last American - they will hold on for the last American tax payer dollar.

8. What's with that link?
I thought I read that yesterday and it said that there were some AIPAC people saying they weren't booing speaker Pelosi, but booing the members who applauded for her. Now I can't find that story.

9. Another perspective of the issue from TPMCafe: But Does AIPAC Want to Go to War? Or Stay at War?

But Does AIPAC Want to Go to War? Or Stay at War?

By Jo-Ann Mort

Like M.J., I'm watching the AIPAC convention this week, albeit in the news, not in person--for signs of where the politicians think the Jewish vote is. That is, were the Jewish vote monolithic, which contrary to all the recent hoopla about "the Jewish vote", it isn't. but,...then again, trends do show and polls do show, that Jewish voters remain mostly liberal--and that isn't just on economic issues. it's also on international issues, even in the Middle East, perhaps especially there. Contrary to public perception, for instance, the majority of American Jews support a state for the Palestinians alongside Israel, an end to the project of Jewish settlement on the West Bank, and, increasingly, an end to the war in Iraq. That's what VP Cheney discovered when he went to speak to AIPAC today in DC.
