1. Somehow
having Wes in the contest makes everyone more credible. Wes will do what he feels is the most effective way to serve the country. Too bad so many others running for office have a different ideas of public service.

2. Carol Shea-Porter, a huge Clark supporter in 2004
She was among the 85 Democratic candidates he campaigned for in 2006, but I bet she had a special place in his heart. She credits him with getting her involved in electoral politics in the first place.

4. Carol Shea-Porter who got involved in national politics through Clark's 04 campaign
is US! Grassroots who made a huge difference by running for office and winning without a big bankroll.

That's why I admire Wes Clark. He inspires!

11. Here's another one inspired by Wes in NH...
Ex-astronaut may challenge Sen. Sununu

HANOVER (AP) -- A Dartmouth Medical School professor and former astronaut is considering a Democratic bid to unseat Republican Sen. John Sununu.

(snip)

(Dr. Jay) Buckey, the medical director for hyperbaric medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, served on the space shuttle Columbia in 1998 as a payload specialist -- someone trained by a commercial or research group for space missions. He spent 16 days in space, orbiting the earth 256 times as he studied the effects of space travel on the brain and nervous system.

He became involved in politics when he served as the Grafton County coordinator for retired Gen. Wesley Clark's 2004 presidential campaign.

Lebanon City Councilor Karen Liot Hill, who is encouraging Buckey to run, called him a "real human being."

"He is not independently wealthy. He is not one of the political insiders in New Hampshire," she said. "I think he's the kind of guy who would be a very appealing candidate to grass-roots activists as well as to average people who may not be as engaged in the political process."

12. There are a few more where that came from......
Most famously Sen. Webb. and Eric Massa. One won, one didn't....but in terms of inspiration, I'm for certain in both cases Wes Clark had a lot to do with it.

5. The response from the locals there will no doubt help to drive his decision
to run or not to run. Just like with Obama.

6. Well, he doesn't have as much hype as Obama, though.
But, he was well-received last time he spent any time in NH.

8. Carol Shea-Porter is amazing
There is no truer example of a candidate rising up from the grassroots to win election to Congress than her. When Janet and I saw her speak for the first time Janet turned to me and said "She should be our first woman President" and I had to agree. Wes Clark was Carol's only high profile national supporter early in her campaign, she wasn't even included as a netoots candidate by Kos. When the chips were down Clark came through for her, just like she did for him in 2004. It was fun to see them together during the 2006 campaign, there is obviously great warmth and respect shared between them. She will be a great Congresswoman.

14. Oh the weather outside will be frightful
I'd taken Friday off, and held out until today, before I officially had to cancel the Wes-trip. We have 12-18 inches of snow coming tomorrow, and the coast is expecting that snow to mix with freezing rain. My trip to Portsmouth is 4 hours one way, a way just too far for me. I hope those who live closer can make this event. It is a very low-key house party to raise some cash for Carol. It is also $250 to get in the door. This is not a rally.

Carol Shea-Porter is definitely one of us. My favorite story: after the election was over the DCCC called her to see if she needed help to pay any remaining campaign bills. Since they hadn't called her until then they must have been surprised to learn that she had no bills. Her successful campaign against a 3 term republican cost $250,000. The power of the roots put in action.

15. "Since they hadn't called her until then"
No of course they hadn't. They still too often don't know where to look to see the grassroots growing. I assume they'll call her earlier next time though. The Republicans will know what they are up against next time also. I am glad Clark is going there to help her get a jump on fund raising.

Hey a little of that $250,000 last time came from me, and I know I wasn't the only Clarkie who supported Carrol at Clark's urging. One of the best expenditures I've ever made.

16. "My next ad is in your wallet" CS-P
What a great line! That got some money out of my wallet.

When I got back to Maine, I put her picture on bulletin board. When the janitor asked me about the picture, I said, "That's someone you'd love to vote for if you had the chance." I'm sticking to that story.

Good luck NH. I hope the traveling in your state is better than we are experiencing up here. This storm is covering the entire US. MrZ now shouting at the TV: "Can you people say 'Global Warming'? Of course you can't! Bastards!"

MrZ, normally a mild quiet guy, is getting plenty pissed.
