Anti-war tour brings Sheehan to Vermont

February 23, 2007

By Gordon Dritschilo Rutland Herald

CASTLETON — The public face of the anti-war movement is scheduled to appear in Rutland and Castleton State College in early March.

Cindy Sheehan, who became famous for holding an anti-war vigil outside President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas, will be in Rutland on March 4. She began protesting the war after her son, an American soldier, was killed in Iraq in 2004.

She is scheduled to start her weekend by testifying at a Vermont Senate committee hearing in Montpelier on March 2. The next day, March 3, she will appear in Castleton.

Her Castleton appearance is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the college's Fine Arts Center. Scheduled to appear with her is journalist John Nichols, a former Washington correspondent for The Nation.

Sheehan is scheduled to speak at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Rutland on March 4, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Sheehan's visit is part of a tour of Vermont that she and members of two groups — Iraq Veterans Against the War and Veterans for Peace— are taking to support town meeting resolutions calling for an end to the war.
