Bill Richardson 2008!
I havn't seen much here about Richardson so I thought I would post this.
He has great foreign policy cred and it is time for a Hispanic.

"Bill Richardson: Governor, Congressman, Presidential Contender: Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico was elected in 2002 and reelected in 2006. On January 21, 2007, Richardson entered the 2008 race for the White House. He was on John Kerry's vice-presidential short list, and was chair of the Democratic 2004 Convention.

Richardson was a Congressman for 7 terms, from 1983-97, served as UN Ambassador from 1997-98 and was US Secretary of Energy under Bill Clinton from 1998-01. Richardson is the nation's only Hispanic governor."

3. I know he doesn't have much of a chance
But he IS a good man and he is as qualified as the rest. Says a lot about our system.

4. Oh, I'd say his chances are fairly good...
Yeah, Obama and Clinton are certainly the front runners, but I think Richardson has a better chance than Dodd or Biden or many of the other second-tier candidates. Personally, I've long been in favor of the "To Heck With Whitey" Ticket -- Obama/Richardson '08!

5. He seems to be fairly popular on DU. And he's drawing a lot of
positive responses.

I expect him to be on our ticket, possibly as the vice presidential candidate.

The party could look to him to help anchor the west-of-the-Mississippi states. And our convention this time is in Denver. Richardson would be a natural striding onto that stage.

2. Good alternative to some of these "rock star" senators.
He's electable and has the experience to govern.

6. He also presided over the Wen Ho Lee witch hunt
and refused to allow a recount in the 2004 election theft, even though it was crystal clear that the numbers didn't add up and over 17,000 of us had our votes in the national election erased.

He's a corporatist DLCer. I would much rather see him as Secretary of State, where his negotiating skill would be put to much better use.

We could do worse, though.

11. Are Hispanics automatically granted sainthood?
My great great granny came from Seville, so that's really nice to know.

12. I don't appreciate that.
That was never even implied and you know it.

8. I Was Amazed How Much Support Richardson Had
on the recent DU poll -- virtually tied with Obama, Edwards, Clark, and Kucinich.

At this point, I just someone someone competent who will make good decisions for all Americans. As the only governor in the race, that means a lot. A lot of people here have criticized Richardson conservative economic platform, including cutting taxes and supporting free trade. However, if he can pursue more populist goals by incorporating some of these things, I'm all for it.

I really hadn't Richardson much chance to move out of single digits. But if he is able to get within striking distance, a lot of voters will look at him more closely.

9. My top pick. But the "netroots" will never accept him...
...unless someone like KOS glosses him over.
