Geffen slams Clintons

"Hillary Clinton's campaign apparently didn't take too kindly to the harsh rhetoric from L.A. music mogul David Geffen, courtesy of today's Maureen Dowd. Geffen, who is backing Barack Obama, called Bill Clinton "reckless" and clearly is still upset that Clinton didn't grant a pardon to cause celeb native American Leonard Peltier. More Geffen: "Marc Rich getting pardoned? An oil-profiteer expatriate who left the country rather than pay taxes or face justice?"

Clinton chief spokesperson Howard Wolfson, in a release this a.m., is "demanding that" Obama "disavow personal attacks" from Geffen. Wolfson: "While Senator Obama was denouncing slash and burn politics yesterday, his campaign's finance chair was viciously and personally attacking Senator Clinton and her husband. If Senator Obama is indeed sincere about his repeated claims to change the tone of our politics, he should immediately denounce these remarks, remove Mr. Geffen from his campaign and return his money. While Democrats should engage in a vigorous debate on the issues, there is no place in our party or our politics for the kind of personal insults made by Senator Obama's principal fundraiser."

"Everybody in politics lies, but they do it with such ease, it’s troubling,” Geffen said.

He was criticizing a policy decision Clinton made in pardoning Marc Rich, but not Leanard Peltier.

I don't consider that a personal attack at all.

Geffen is known to slam everybody and often does it to the press for attention. Even with his billions, not many in the entertainment industry pay much attention to him.

The whole Bill Clinton - Denise Rich speculation from the media and RW talkradio was a convenient smokescreen to hide yet another IranContra figure pardon. Clinton may or may not have been duped into protecting Poppy Bush yet again.

I always thought that the Marc Rich pardon (among others) stunk to high heaven. I wonder if the people on this forum, who may think it was no big deal, will show the same lack of outrage when Shrub pardons the two convicted border patrol agents, or even Scooter Libby (assuming he is convicted).

11. After reading the links it seems very much to me

like Obama's campaign finance chair (who's also a very wealthy media mogul) criticized BILL Clinton for pardons that he did and did not make. I didn't actually see any place that Geffen even refers to Hillary or any personal issues with her. IMHO, it's REALLY stretching it to call this a personal attack by Obama on Hillary. The fact that her spokesman would go so far as refer to this as "slash-and-burn" politics makes it seem to me like Hillary is just taking this opportunity to try to smear Obama's campaign as dirty.
