Gore rules out bid for White House

Former US vice president Al Gore has ruled out a bid for the US presidency in the 2008 elections and will carry on his fight against global climate change.

"I have no intention to run for president... I can't imagine in any circumstance to run for office again," Mr Gore said in an interview conducted in Los Angeles and broadcast by the BBC.

This is old news and not an accurate headline at all. Wish the news would quit trying to put words in his mouth.

This supposedly is. And I do not believe he would ever say anything about a date or use this crisis for his own purposes, especially when he knows saying it will definitely take credibility away from his passion for what he is doing now, and again, the man is no liar when it come to this.

How many times does he have to say in interviews that he has found other ways to serve and he is enjoying them? And why is it so imperative that the mess made be dumped on his lap if he truly does not wish to have it so? Democrats seem to have gotten over 2004 alright regarding missing their chance. People for all of their complaining about Bush the last seven years destroying this Constitution still on the whole don't seem to be outraged even after it all to dismantle the good ole boys network that really runs Washington DC. All I see are people on all sides using it for their own political advantage while people continue to die.

If people can live with Bush until 2009 and ignore his crimes, then I don't see any problem with them living with any Democrat who might get the nomination to be Chairman or woman of the military/industrial complex that isn't going anywhere between now and then, because the Presidency isn't then really important to them based on principle. And as for putting words in Mr. Gore's mouth, I think that transcends the media and goes straight to blogs that post "september speculation" as fact as well. Maybe everyone should put a lid on it out of respect for the man to make up his own mind about what he wishes to do now?
He seems to be doing great things without that beltway.

I wish to GOD he'd run. He's EXACTLY what we need, and he could pull just about everybody together in this huge juggernaut to start setting our country back in the proper direction - and he wouldn't need some suspicious manipulation of a terrorist attack on our shores to steamroll people over to his side. The magnetism of his position and stature ALONE would do it. Plus, I think it would be a HUGELY healing event in our history to have him ascend to the presidency - the job he rightfully won and was denied, and is OWED. Dear God, that would be such a monumentally historic, healing and cathartic moment. Just the kind of thing we need, as a nation, to start putting this nightmare period squarely BEHIND us and begin a rawther colossal repair/rehabilitation job. There's SO much wreckage that needs to be hauled away, SO much damage that needs to be undone, SO much backsliding that needs to be stopped, SO much hemmorhaging that needs to be stanched, SO much broken that needs to be fixed.

I'll be looking more closely at Obama and Clark (although I fear Wesley Clark won't have any momentum at this point). John Edwards for Attorney General. I'd like to see him personally take a meat axe - or a battering ram complete with howitzers and flame throwers - to all the walls of garbage that mr. "Torture's Okay" gonzales has built up.

if this is reported by anyone other than ABC's Australian unit. Just googled this on Google News - and news about his concerts covered several pages but only one link had this. If true, it would be all over the place. I wouldn't put it past the M$M from putting this out there - didn't they do this last week?

IMHO, Gore's office will issue an official statement one way or the other when he does decide. He won't mention it casually to some BBC reporter.

...so why is the media trying to spread the "word" that Gore is NOT running? If he said something recently, that would be news. But rehashing old statements?

I just had a thought that perhaps they are doing this so that if Gore DOES announce he will run, they will make it sound like he changed his mind, lied, etc when he "ruled it out". Just a theory.

Now...has the press ever spread stuff like that about Gore? I am thinking earth tones, allegedly saying he invented the internet . The media is good at planting "memes" about candidates.

So virtually every candidate plays the game before they announce that they have no plans to run, etc....this is common knowledge. But if Gore runs, it becomes a big issue? I hope I am wrong about this.

...would either decide to make a run for it or give a flat-out refusal. I know some on here may consider what he's said so far to indicate a refusal to run, but I just wish he'd at least give a statement along the lines of "if nominated, I will refuse the nomination" and fully shut the book on the possibility. Al Gore is my first choice if he decides to run, and I feel like I can't really commit to anyone else until I know for sure he's not in the running. And I figure there are plenty of other here who feel similarly!

by politics and other issues. He is the one who put global warming on center stage. Being president would cut off a lot of time and opportunity for him to focus on the environment.

You honestly think that should he not run in this military /industrial complex that he would be a has been? If that were the case he then already is one by that logic since he chose not to run in 2004, and that simply isn't true as many can see now. I also have yet to see ANY PROOF presented that being president of this corrupt government now would do any good. How would you afford to institute anything COMPREHENSIVE and NECESSARY regarding climate change from the military industrial complex with the deficits we have and the wars we will have to pay off for decades? Does your order apply to all of it? Where is the source for the words he allegedly spoke regarding September? Where is the quote? What is the source? He is so focused on climate change right now (which is where more of us should be) that he actually rolls his eyes when "that" question is asked. Could it be that he is simply being HONEST?
