Poll question: Which remaining candidate is most likely to select Clark as VP?
Which remaining candidate would be most likely to select Clark as VP should he win the nomination?

1. I think he'll get a cabinet spot, probably Sec. of Defense or State
Kerry's already got the War-hero credentials, so I'm not sure they'll go with Clark. Perhaps.

2. He would be a GREAT appointment to Either.
I also think that Ed Rendell would be the perfect Atty. Gen. to roll back the asscroft abuses, but he's wanted to be Gov. of PA for so long that I doubt he'd give it up after only 2 years.

Needless to say, Gen. Clark is a wonderful improvement over either of the present State or Defense inhabitors.

3. Ah! Ed Rendell would be a superb choice for AG.
I'm down with that.

6. "war hero" doesn't equate to national security experience
However much people would like to think that 4 years in the shit over 30 years ago translates to national security credentials, they are mistaken. Rove et al will be none-too-shy about negating Kerry's service with anti-war activity and military budget cut smears.

And Kerry's not going to be getting compared to AWOL. His relative inexperience with the modern military and national security will be compared and contrasted with that of the entire Bush Administration, who are already in place. I expect to see/hear a lot about "changing boats in the middle of the stream", "no time for on-the-job training", "hit the ground stumbling", etc. during the campaign.

The only thing Kerry's military service truly offers, is the impression that he would be more respectful of the military and its use, and that he wouldn't unnecessarily send America's sons & daughters into harm's way.

Oops.

5. In the world of politics
There would be several ways Dean could reconcile that statement with putting Clark on the ticket. He could say that after observing Clark's campaign, he no longer thinks that. He could say that this country is in need of unity and that having a VP who has stong democratic ideals is more important than party history. If Dean wants him and Clark wants it, they'd work it out.

7. Edwards is running for VP and I say go for it, John.
Edwards wants to be president in '12 or '08. Clark deserves a position that has power and influence.

8. Clark supporters
I seriously doubt that we will see Wes Clark on the final ticket. In all likelihood the nominee is John Kerry. He probably feels that he has the "national security issue" sown up on his own so look for one of 2 choices as the VP:

- someone like Gephardt who is solid, midwestern and not draining an existing Senate seat or governorship OR

- a young up-and-comer, like John Edwards, who will be young enough to carry the mantle in 2012 on the odds that the ticket wins in Nov.

Wes Clark would make an extraordinary and probably brilliant President but he isn't right to balance the ticket.

9. Depends on the kind of balance you're looking for
Clark's opposition to the war would nicely balance Kerry's vote for it in the eyes of this voter.

12. Not only his opposition to the war--his complete HONESTY
about it.

It probably earned him some enemies, but he was bold enough to come out and state what he knew about the situation.

It was very admirable.

He has a lot of other great qualities too, and he has always been my second choice.

He didn't cram his military and foreign policy experience down our throats. He didn't have to because his credentials spoke for themselves.

And I ADORE his wife.
