Clark supporters lets set an example!
Our guy is out. . .now its time for us to set an example. We need to finish what we have started. . .its time to help lead the Democrats to victory November.

There is a hell of a lot to be frustrated about, but if you waste one minute blaming the DLC/DNC, media, Terry McAuliffe, et al. . .then you are helping Rove, Bush and Co!

Find a way to put your energy and frustration to use. If you cannot actively support the eventual nominee, then support you local US Senate candidate, US Rep candidate, State Senate Candidate, State Rep Candidate, school board candidate oh hell DOG CATCHER! No candidates to support? Find an issue. Register people to vote. . .whatever you do, set an example. . .DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME COMPLAINING AND BLAMING. . .just lead and make Wes Clark proud!

1. I know Clark wants Bush out of office as bad as I do
Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 08:33 AM by Catch22Dem
Therefore, my support will go to the nominee. This has always been the case with me. I would have voted for Lieberman if it meant a removal of BFEE.

ON EDIT: Holy christ, that rhymes. What am I Dr. Suess?

2. Oh I just have to reply to this!
It is remarkable to me that posters I so strongly disagreed with are now writing things I couldn't agree with more! I could have written this post it so expresses my views!

I concur completely on the alternative actions we can all take if our nominee for the WH is...shall we say "less than inspiring". It is evident that the Dem party in need of a lot of work. If everyone put the efforts into taking control of the party from the corporate interests that they have into their candidates' campaigns, we'd be calling the shots, not the DLC/DNC who have little regard for the masses.

I urge everyone to join the effort. Go to your local Dem party, get involved. Do not be discouraged, press on no matter what! There are state, local and national House/Senate races that need our help!

Kudos to you wndycty for you post. :toast:

Julie

3. You are exactly right.
No vote is too small, or too humble, ie. the dog catcher.

People are very mistaken when they think being actively engaged in politics is an intellictual exercise.

It's emotional. And boy oh boy, can your emotions take a hit big time when you watch your candidate struggle toward the top.

I am loving all of you!

For those of you who have never been involved before in actively supporting a candidate, please continue.

18. yup
that's the way the republicans did it. Put Democrats in positions in every single area of government. School boards, local townships, etc. That's the way.

4. No, I'm not ready to do that......
I need to regroup after the abuse by the DNC/DLC anointing crew. It was and is unacceptable. I will never forget this...they did this to Dean and Clark.

9. Dear liberalnurse
as we speak, there are grassroots organizations poping up all over the internet, as a next step past the primary.

Dean supporters are organizating to contiune to find a way to make our voices heard.

I believe the success of these organizations directly depends on the people who are new to politics. The new internet culture.

The DLC/DNC is no different than any other political group, in as much as they want us to go away. After all, they have control. Once you get a taste of control, it drives all that you do.

To all DU'ers. Find a group and stay involved.

7. I'll tell you right now, though I want Chimpy Ass out of office I am no
longer a Democrat. I am an Independent. The Dem party has lost my ass.
They set both Clark and Dean up.

They put Clark in to stop Dean, when Dean declined then they stopped backing Clark.

I'll never be a Democrat again.

EVER!

12. I'm going to change my party affiliation to independent also.
That is the only way to show the party that they cannot be tone deaf to the Democratic voters.

15. I got my DNC card yesterday, I am cutting it up and mailing it back
I live in VA, we don't have to declare party affiliations, I will happily remain an independent, I don't want to be a part of this disaster zone called the DNC. Sorry Bill.

I am backing Kooch from this point forward, my $$$ are now directed to his campaign.

Get out of my head! You have said the exact same thing that my husband said last night and that I have been thinking.

He said he felt almost as demoralized as he did after his vote didn't count in 2000. At least in 2000 he got to vote and THEN they didn't count it. This time our party leadership has told us they already have a candidate, thank you very much, and that the other 'lesser' candidates should step aside for the good of the party. Iowa and New Hampshire have decided on our nominee and the freight train of momentum is rolling. It's moving so fast that they don't want us to even go through the motions of actually getting to vote in our own state primary.

When I told my husband last night that I was going to vote as a registered Democrat in the primary and then I was going to register Independent he said, "Why wait?" To register his discontent with the Democratic Party he's going to register Independent right away. And he's thinking about starting a protest drive for other voters who feel disenfranchised like he does. A massive "Register Independent" drive.

So counting you and the two of us, that's three Democrats that the party has lost. (Edited: Make it 5 counting Crozet and Kahuna!) Don't get me wrong, I'm still voting ABB in the General Election. I'm just through with the Democratic Party.

10. I have to admit
I'm VERY disappointed that Clark dropped out. I don't get to vote until March 2. I'll probably vote for Edwards, but I'll throw my total support behind the Dem nominee. :-)

Thankfully I am able to move on. I had to move on when Gore announced he was not running. I have to move on now. I'm very nervous about what the GOPers have in mind against Kerry. But, I will support him 100%.

14. Sorry, but I just read Animal Farm, and I am not about to be that..
horse that just says "I will work harder".

I will work smarter, maybe, but I am not going along
with a charade.

Having met Terry McAuliffe recently puts me in an entirely
different place.

I am no longer a "company man".

Clark is his own person. He is not me and I am not he.
He can choose to do what he wants. I don't represent him,
I only represent my own thought and conviction.

17. I will vote ABB, but I am NOT going to stop fighting the media, I will
always blame them for their part in for this election and 2000. I will leave the Democratic party, I have been a registered Democrat since I was old enough to vote. I live in a Repulican controled county because we Dems, or I should say you now, can't get our act together here, in my state, and possible in the country. I hate Bush and Rove, but I don't love the lesser evils either.

19. Amen! I agree fully!
I have worried a great deal about all the people new to politics who have been energized by this primary race. My biggest fear has been that once the Primary was decided that they would let the passion die because Candidate A or Candidate B didn't win (Or did win!)

I am greatly disturbed by the people here at DU who say they are not Dems any more or they will go Indy. To them, I say, I understand you are hurting right now--we all are. We all felt Gen Clark was the best man for the job. Now that he's off the table, we have got to remember why we got involved in this race at all--because we are unhappy with the current state of affairs and we want a change!

Right now, for good or evil, we have essentially two major parties that are players on the national scene--the Dems and the GOP. IN THIS ELECTION, going Indy or going any other candidate may actually assist bush in holding on to the White house, because you will have split out the anti-bush vote.

I fully understand that you may be unhappy with the DNC/DLC/Media/insert name here, however, the bottom line is that abandoning the DNC will only serve to strengthen the chance that Bush will stay in office.

What you do locally is up to you and can be decided ONLY by you, however on a national level, please do consider holding your nose and voting Dem in November.

In the meantime, I have a Senate race and a couple County level races to work on...

Pax to you all!

Laura

21. You know, wndy, I'm feeling okay this morning
Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 11:36 AM by 5thGenDemocrat
Hey, Polly and I were among what seemed to be the two dozen or so people who voted for Clark here in Michigan -- but I've lost my share of battles and, well, the sun came up this morning here in Saginaw.
I look at Clark's withdrawal sort of as I do a loss in an exhibition game. One doesn't like to lose -- but the real battle hasn't even started yet and this defeat doesn't count in the real standings.
I have to believe that the General is in line for a major cabinet position in a Dem administration (Defense or, even better, State, I'd think), but to do that we have to keep our eyes on the real prize.
I want Dopey gone.
To that end, I'm prepared to support, work for and help finance whichever Dem candidate wins in the primaries. And, when the crybabies here threaten to take their ball and go home, I keep in mind that there are more registered Democrats right here in Saginaw County, Michigan than there are on DU.
So I say "let 'em go" and stop wasting our bandwidth. I intend to vote Democratic in November and all the whining is getting to be a real bummer, dude.
Onward to victory! The General understands that while you can't win all the battles, you have to prepare as though you're going to.
John
And we ARE going to win the Big Battle in November. To quote the immortal Joe Namath, "I guarantee it."

22. Thanks - I'll keep that in mind
Did you ever have a boyfriend break up with you RIGHT before the prom?

That is EXACTLY how I feel today! With ONE exception:

I feel like the head cheerleader who got dumped by the quarterback right before the prom, and now every geek in school thinks he's actually got a shot at getting me to go out with him!

Newsflash for the "geeks" - I'm going to the prom solo, okay? After the coronation, I'll dutifully dance with the king... but the jesters need to back off now.
