Poll question: Will Joe Lieberman declare himself a Republican?
It seems to me that now he got to keep his Senate seat, Holy Joe has been aligning himself with the GOP more and more these days. Look at his opposition to raise the national minimum wage and his unrepentant attitude towards the war in Iraq. He has become George W. Bush's lapdog in the Senate. I have said many times if Lieberman won reelection over Ned Lamont, that he would become more right-leaning. What did I tell you?

So who thinks Lieberman will declare himself a Republican? I am willing to bet that he will make an appearance at the GOP convention in Minneapolis next year al a Zell Miller. Just a hunch!

John

22. He probably wants to spy on the Dems as well.
He can go running to Bush, McCain, and the other Neo-cons and tell them what the Dems are up to.

I bet the crafty (I hope) Dems have a meeting with Jihad-Joe and then they they have another secret meeting without him.

8. Thats about it.
I think if our congress is a one-term wonder, many democrats who are on the fence will defect, including the 7 conservative democrats we elected to the house.

If everyone sees that 2006 was just an exception, many in the party may look for political survival in the GOP. I think Shuler,Ellsworth,Donneley,Wilson,Altmire,Taylor and about 5 other democrats will switch from Dem to GOP in the House. I see Lieberman, Ben Nelson becoming Republican and Pryor and Casey going Indie. Also, I would foresee that the democratic party will collapse if we can't get reelected to congress (Charlie Cook predicted that the DNC could disband if they could not get elected this time- I would think this prediction is good until the dems can show that they can be fully re-elected).

5. I think his state could handle "Independent Joe", but they'd boot his ass if he went r-THUG.. so NO.

There were evidently too many Connecticut Independents who were willing to take Joe and an "I" and they, along with a small handful of Democrats, and 99% of registered THUG's in CT allowed him to keep his seat.

Joe know's he's in Connecticut --- not Texas or Kansas.

I say NO WAY that he turns THUG.. unless one of them asked him to run on their ticket.

Other than that, no he won't flip. -- He's not quite Zellified.

He's an Independent. As soon as he sees it is to his advantage to jump the aisle, he will.

And to think he was almost our VP!

12. That's my guess.
Depends on how well the GOP does next year. If they gain, he will probably join the right. If 2008 maintains the status quo, he will change only if the Dems gains in the senate. He will probably stop being such a bitch if the GOP loses in 2008. I'm guessing he will retire or lose by 2012 if he does switch.

14. If Lieberman is "Pro Civil Rights", WHY Does He Vote For All the Anti-Civil-Rights Judges??
The most important civil rights votes Lieberman ever got to make were on cloture for Bush**'s Supreme Court justices.
He voted with the Repiglicans. Nothing else in his civil rights voting record matters compared to that.

...but I ain't bettin' the rent on him following through.
He's got a shot at beoming the VP if (when!) Cheney goes down...
and if (when!) Bush is impeached/resigns/chokes on another pretzel....all bets are off.

18. If he becomes and Repug and/or endorses the GOP in 2008...
his career will be over when the Dems gain more Senate seats. At that point, he will be useless and his chairmanship of the Homeland Security Committee will be gone.

19. LIEberMe is a puke, plan and simple.
And he will switch when we pick up some seats in 2008 and dump his sorry puke ass to the curb.

For now, we have to dance his dance. As sickening as that is, he'll be gone soon.

27. Agreed. Also, he's got seniority and a chairmanship.
He's chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committee, and he's not willing to give up that chairmanship.

If he defects to the Republicans, he'll probably lose that chairmanship, and lose all his party seniority.

28. I'd be prepared to bet that he won't. (at least not within the next two years)
especially since the New England Republicans did so badly in the election.

I think that if (a) he wanted to be a Republican; (b) the Republicans strongly wanted him to become one, he would have already done so. The Republicans supported him for re-election at the expense of their own candidate, without requiring him to switch parties. That's unusual, and may suggest that they don't really want him to.

Just guessing, of course.

I doubt the Republicans want Lieberman either. He should do a makeover and take over Hannity's job.

He supported raising the minimum wage. If you don't like Lieberman, that is fine. Why is it necessary to lie create opposition to him?

32. No.
Amazing how many DUers predicted with absolute certainty that Lieberman would switch parties right after the election. And he didn't. I wish like hell that Lamont had won, but he didn't and Lieberman isn't going anywhere.
