Edwards Gives Speech From Amercian Serb Memorial Hall Tonight
In politics, symbolism is very important. The fact that Edwards chose to give his speech tonight from the American Serb Memorial Hall is definately a fuck you to Clark.

Edwards has so totally disgusted me tonight, I really can't express how much...

Why?
Why is that a slam at Clark? I take it as a small bit of gratitude towards Clark. Clark is a great Democrat, but I sense that his supporters are feeling a bit insecure in his campaign tonight.

2. Gratitude?
How can that be viewed as gratitude?

11. Gratitude
I guess it is not gratitude. From posts below it looks like that just happens to be the place in Milwaukee to hold such a rally. However, I originally thought that Edwards could be reaching out to Clark by hosting an event at "Serb Hall" ... kind of a "I realize you did a great thing, I want to highlight it and follow up on it" thing. I could be wrong, but I would think that Edwards would be trying to get on Clark's good side about now.

Edwards and Clark have been my top two candidates all along. I think they would make a great ticket, regardless of who is at the top. But, I am ABB all the way.

Hope that explains my original post a bit.

4. Or it could be that it was simply the best place to hold the event
Edited on Tue Feb-10-04 10:48 PM by Edwards4President
In other words, you have absolutely no idea why the Edwards campaign selected this place for this event or whether it was for reasons totally unrelated to Clark.

I have a feeling that your disgust towards Edwards has nothing to do with where he gave his speech tonight.

6. Info on the hall:
Edited on Tue Feb-10-04 10:50 PM by AP
Many, many important rallies have been held at Serb Hall and some of the famous persons who have visited an/or spoken there over the years include: John and Jackie Kennedy, Dwight Eisenhower, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Lyndon Johnson, Ronald and Nancy Reagan, George Bush, Bill Clinton, Dick Chaney, Hubert Humphrey, Edmund Muskie, George McGovern, Walter Mondale, Michael Dukakis, Jerry Kleczka, Governor Tommy Thompson, Mayor John Norquist, Mayor Henry Meier, Police Chief Harold Brier, Clement Zablocki, William O'Donnell and the list goes on. As one NBC producer covering one of the rallies so aptly put it, "Serb Hall has been a must stop for local, state and federal office seekers for many years."

American Serb Hall has been in the business of graciously serving the community for over 50 years. Serb Hall has a reputation for being the most versatile and complete banquet facility in South side of Milwaukee. American Serb Hall has been awarded continuous honors by many local reader polls year after year. Our award winning Friday Fish Fry, is voted Milwaukee's favorite fish fry for the fifth year in a row!

Although American Serb Memorial Hall opened for business in 1950, the first meeting for the creation of a fund to build a new Serbian hall and church in Milwaukee was much earlier, held in November 1934. The Very Reverend Milan Brkich, Dean of the St. Sava Cathedral, after much research and investigation, suggested a site at South 51st and West Oklahoma. Despite the fact that the area was very remote at the time, Father Brkich's foresight envisioned it to be the most promising location for the needs of the Milwaukee Serbian community. The location met with immediate approval by church membership. The entire 14-acre parcel of land was purchased in February 1949, and in the fall of 1949 the land was blessed and the cornerstone laid. The campaign to finance the project went into immediate full swing and its success far exceeded all expectations. Thousands of dollars were donated and everyone was eager to help and anxious to see the dream of a new Milwaukee Serbian Hall become transformed into an actual physical reality.

5. Umm..
I don't think it was a "fuck you" to Clark. It is nowhere near the same as leaking your announcement on the same day Edwards had scheduled to announce his candidacy. Or misrepresenting Edwards' tax plan. Or lying about Edwards' votes against the Bush tax plan.

If he gave his speech at a VFW hall, would that be a big f-you to Kerry? If he gave it a labor union hall would that be an f-you to Gephardt? No. He has a speech where the Serb Memorial Hall obviously welcomed him.

I think Wes Clark is a good man, but the people decided not to vote for him today. That's not Edwards' fault.

10. Was Clinton saying fuck you to Clark when he spoke there?
An NBC producer says everyone running for office must stop there.

12. WTF??
Milwaukee has a big Serbian-American population, and tons of politicians have spoken there:

Go here

I believe there's some footage of JFK speaking there in the documentary about the '60 Wisconsin primary. The idea that it's some kind of shot at Clark is crazy.

16. Serb Hall is just a big meeting hall here
I don't think there was any alterior motive in location.

However...

I do take issue with Edwards calling it a two-man race, even when he is very far behind in the Wisconsin polls.

That was a rare classless move by Sen. Edwards.
