It's really easy to send someone else's children over to Iraq when you have none of your own to send

1. as usual Fox misses the point as it WAS NOT ab out her
being childless!!

"Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer, an appalling scold from California, wasted no time yesterday in dragging the debate over Iraq about as low as it can go – attacking Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for being a childless woman," the New York City tabloid reported on its front page Friday. "Boxer was wholly in character for her party – New York's own two Democratic senators, Chuck Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton, were predictably opportunistic – but the Golden State lawmaker earned special attention for the tasteless jibes she aimed at Rice."

Boxer asked Rice, who was defending Bush's new Iraq policy to the Senate, "Who pays the price?"

"I'm not going to pay a personal price," Boxer said. "My kids are too old, and my grandchild is too young."

Then, Boxer said to Rice, "You're not going to pay a particular price, as I understand it, with an immediate family."

"Breathtaking," the Post observed. "Simply breathtaking. We scarcely know where to begin."

2. Oh god -- don't even dignify that shit with a counterargument
These folks are grasping at straws. The real story is that Condi went to Capitol Hill and lied her ass off yesterday, and they'll do ANYTHING they can to distract from that reality.

Don't play their game. They WANT us to argue about Boxer's statement rather than the real issue. Fuck them.

3. Bush and Lieberman have children and support sending other people
to die in their wars based upon deceit and delusions.

4. I had a similar conversation with a friend
We were discussing the 2000 election. I was so upset at the time, and she was one of those who thought that Gore shouldn't fight. I reminded her of that a few months ago, and mentioned how many innocent Iraqis had been killed due to *'s selection. I asked her how she would feel if two of those people had been her parents. She thought I was arguing unfairly.

But I don't think so. Everything * does seems to involve death. Just because it doesn't affect someone immediate to the people making these poor choices doesn't mean that the death isn't relevant.

9. Good observation: "Everything * does seems to involve death"
What else would one expect from an heir of a family of Third Reich supporters... In *s mind the solution to all world problems involves killing people.

Our military is NOT SUPPOSED to be *'s personal squad of corporate mercenaries.

5. Even if she had kids, they wouldn't be the ones
putting their lives on the line. Look at the Bush twins. The only shooters they're familiar with are the little ones served up in bars.

The whole neocon philosophy is to start wars then kick back and enjoy the profits. They don't give a rat's ass who gets killed in the process because it sure as hell won't be anybody they know.

6. Conveniently, an anonymous "marine sargeant" had a reply handy.
Fucking ridiculous. What Pickles said to her about a month ago was far more personal and insulting.

11. I agree with you Lynne, this has nothing to do with Condie's
reproductive decisions. It has to do with the cold-hearted disregard for the lives of others displayed by all members of this administration and its supporting party...

12. Looking at the complete context, it was obviously not about
Rice being childless, but about persons in power making decisions that they themselves will never suffer the brunt of. Boxer INCLUDED HERSELF in that statement, acknowledging her own children as too old and her grandchildren as too young.

It is nothing more than another Faux smear.

14. MSNBC
just did the same thing as Fox did. Stupid is as stupid does I guess. Most normal people understood exactly what Senator Boxer said. It takes a stupid republican strategist to make a mountain out of sand and will repeat the same thing over and over again.

15. I think anyone who takes offense to what Boxer said is offending all childless-by-choice people.
Edited on Fri Jan-12-07 02:18 PM by valerief
If Rice chose to not have children, then she doesn't have them so she can't know what it feels like to sacrifice a child to the Bush Iraq War. Then again, Bush has had children and he'll never know what it feels like, either.

16. Poor Barbara, she should learn the way of the Southern insult.
and just add, "Bless your heart".

So why can Laura Bush get away with saying such things about Condi, and Barbara gets nailed? Aside from being First Lady and all, I suppose.

18. It's about being heartless, not childless. Being childless is hardly an insult
in my book. In fact I admire people who chose to not have kids and stick to it in spite of the pressure of the conformists.

19. There are plenty of "childless" people who have "skin in the game"
Boxer's statement was never out of line...it was never about someone being "childless". In contrast to both Boxer and Rice, neither of which have any "skin in the game" and any immediate family member (parent, sibling, child) who could serve in the military, there are however plenty of "childless" people who could.

What if a male or female who is single and without children and aged 20, had several siblings between the ages of 18-22 and parents who were 40? That person's entire family could be the "skin in the game".

To state that Boxer was attacking poor Ms. Rice's choice in being childless and single is a complete and utter bullshit argument.

20. It's about RICE!! It is not about Boxer.
She made a fool of herself and they're trying to change the subject. Here we are fetching the stick which was the entire point in the first place. As long as we defend Boxer from their attacks, we're not talking about Rice looking like an idiot.

Barabara Boxer is one tough cookie who can take care of herself. Rice was pathetic and that's what is important that they don't want to talk about.
