More vindication for the Alachua voting activist...Charlie Grapski
Charlie has been treated in a despicable manner by Alachua. He was charged with felony wiretapping even though the recorder was sitting openly on the table. Charges were dropped, and since attention has been brought to this issue online....city officials are in some trouble.

Here is the latest:

http://highspringsherald.com/articles/2006/11/30/news/n...

"State: Watson breaking law by also being police officer"

ALACHUA - As both a city law enforcement officer and the Alachua city manager, Clovis Watson Jr. is illegally holding two offices, according to opinions written by the Attorney General.

That now leads to questions about the validity of arrests that Watson has made since 2002, including the well-known arrest of Charlie Grapski on charges that were later thrown out of court.

Questions also are raised about the fact that the city puts extra, "special risk" money into Watson's retirement fund, treating him as a police officer. Watson has even been given a second title, called "police commissioner."

Attorney General Charlie Crist, soon to be governor, wrote in a document on dual office holding that law enforcement officers cannot also hold another office in a municipality.

I wrote quite a bit about this travesty. I even posted a video of Charlie speaking to the city commission there. It never got any attention here or at any of the larger Democratic forums, but a lot just kept working at it at smaller blogs. Renee'e HEP blog has done wonders.

Here is an earlier journal on this. Charlie is a valued member of the DFA community, and he has made some in North Florida wake up.

Hey, you know you've arrived when Jake Fuller makes a cartoon about your nemesis.

Go Charlie.

2. Thanks for responding. These posts never get any responses.
I guess people don't want to get involved in unpleasant things like a U of F graduate student getting charged with felony wiretapping by a guy who holds just about every position in town.

Guess I don't blame them.
Proud of Charlie for sticking with it.
