Just an FYI, any Democrat that supports the draft will not get my vote in 2008
Edited on Sun Nov-19-06 09:45 PM by Hippo_Tron
I know that this is most likely a stunt and that we're not suddenly back in 1968, but I'm going on the record anyway and saying this now. Any Democrat that supports the draft will not have my vote in 2008 whether they are running for dog catcher or President. I don't care if they are just trying to prove a point and I don't care if they are progressive on every other issue. This is the issue that effects me more than anything being 19.

Also, I should mention that this doesn't mean I'll be voting Republican. I'm smart enough to know that if somehow a draft did pass a Democratic Congress, the Republicans would make sure to use it to start more wars the second they got in office.

1. You don't need to worry about that.
No viable major-party candidate is going to support the draft.

13. I believe you are correct Skinner
But being 19 there's just something in the back of my mind that worries me.

3. That's what I am talking about.
If I were draft age, I would be crapping bricks about now. I would seriously be considering a move to Chile. There would be no stinking way I could agree to be drafted unless the country was directly attacked or invaded. But not for this illegal and criminal war. WAKE UP, DEMOCRATS! This is the wrong idea to fight Bush's agenda.

4. it isnt about this war necessarily
it is about avoiding future wars. do you think * would have rushed to war if his kids were forced to serve? how many members of congress would vote recklessly if their child was drafted into the armed forces and was going to head to a war zone.

Michael Moore did a great job pointing this out in fahrenheit 911

8. This post is a stunt as much as Rangel's proposal

These "I'll not support any Democrat that supports ________" (fill in the blank) posts are a dime a dozen and designed to be contentious. I find them a yawn.

9. For the record, I will kindly bow out of the 2-party system
if there evolves a draft. Period. I feel I'm with Hippo_Tron. I understand the point--I'm not missing it. I am against any such thing.

12. this country has no stomach for involuntary sacrifice
if there is a draft, we'd have to get attacked by a nation with a nuke stamped 'made in China' before they'd institute one for a war and people would get drafted.
