A VERY simple proposal to light the lights in Congress ....
Since our side now controls the agenda and the bills that make it to the floor, here's a suggestion that's been bandied about for quite some time:

Keep EVERY bill simple and focused.

No riders, no poison pills. Nothing but a clear, simple, understandable bill for each issue. No bridges to nowhere buried an education bill.

It cuts both ways, but its the right thing to do.

On the up side, it allows everyone to know what they're voting for. More important, it allows WE THE PEOPLE to know what our representatives voted for on our behalf. It makes their stands on every issue crystal clear.

On the down side, it prevents the party in power from having the ability to do some legislative chicanery. Legislative chicanery may be good for politics, but it sucks for WE THE PEOPLE.

Let the light of day shine on the work being done in our name.

2. I love this idea and I'd add one more piece to it...

the full text of the bill should be available online...what I mean is, no more of this "replaces the word may with the word shall in bill #blada blada"..."remove paragraph thisone and replace with paragraph thatone"

You need to have 7 or 8 bills in hand just to read one, then you have to sit there and cut and paste this part to that page...

An example:

`Sec. 707. Dismissal of a case or conversion to a case under chapter 11 or 13';

and

(2) in subsection (b)--

(A) by inserting `(1)' after `(b)';

(B) in paragraph (1), as so redesignated by subparagraph (A) of this paragraph--

(i) in the first sentence--

(I) by striking `but not at the request or suggestion of' and inserting `trustee (or bankruptcy administrator, if any), or';

(II) by inserting `, or, with the debtor's consent, convert such a case to a case under chapter 11 or 13 of this title,' after `consumer debts'; and

(III) by striking `a substantial abuse' and inserting `an abuse'; and

(ii) by striking the next to last sentence; and

(C) by adding at the end the following:

`(2)(A)(i) In considering under paragraph (1) whether the granting of relief would be an abuse of the provisions of this chapter, the court shall presume abuse exists if the debtor's current monthly income reduced by the amounts determined under clauses (ii), (iii), and (iv), and multiplied by 60 is not less than the lesser of--

`(I) 25 percent of the debtor's nonpriority unsecured claims in the case, or $6,000, whichever is greater; or

`(II) $10,000.

???? How about showing the bill in its entirety for those of us who don't store copies of U.S. legislation in our filing cabinet.

edit: punctuation
