Kerry blooper turns out for the best.
It is hard for democrats to get opportunities to speak to the public. But the news media was more than willing to continue to bring up this issue. This gave democrats all over the Country the opportunity to speak out and say how ridiculous the repugs are and then point out that Bush is a liar. This is the tactic that should be used over and over. When the repugs bring up some distracting issue, the demo response should be, "that's a stupid issue, but lets talk about how Bush lied us into Iraq."

I am disappointed in those democrats that shunned Kerry. We need to stand up to the repugs as a united force.

Bravo Sen. Kerry.

1. a couple of other things
I agree, this was a faux news issue. BUT, it also helps.

a. our newest candidates got a pass from intense review and investigation - even a false accusation would be pushed aside by the Kerry MSM coverage.
b. people do not care what Kerry has to say.
c. Kerry is about as good a public speaker as Mayor Daley of Chicago. The first Mayor Daley, that is. See #2.
d. It made the GOP look like a bunch of fools, trying to cover up real issues, bloody, deadly, criminal issues, like IraqNam, and worse, we learn today that they cancelled the ability to review fraud by US companies working in IraqNam!

2. I think you're wrong. Kerry energized alot of us when he attacked Bush

for his lies for 15 minutes straight on television. We finally heard a top Dem talk about Bush and his strawmen the same way many of us here have for 6 years.

The blistering commentaries against Bush from actual journalists was also a HUGE PLUS these last few days.

13. I don't think indictments are the call here - more like expose the media giants and
cut them down to a more manageable size.

Kerry Seeks to Reverse FCC's "Wrongheaded Vote"

Commission Decision May Violate Laws Protecting Small Businesses; Kerry to File Resolution of Disapproval

Monday, June 2, 2003

WASHINGTON - Senator John Kerry today announced plans to file a "Resolution of Disapproval" as a means to overturn today's decision by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to raise media ownership caps and loosen various media cross-ownership rules.
Kerry will soon introduce the resolution seeking to reverse this action under the Congressional Review Act and Small Business Regulatory Enforcement Fairness Act on the grounds that the decision may violate the laws intended to protect America's small businesses and allow them an opportunity to compete.

As Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Kerry expressed concern that the FCC's decision will hurt localism, reduce diversity, and will allow media monopolies to flourish. This raises significant concerns about the potential negative impacts the decision will have on small businesses and their ability to compete in today's media marketplace.

In a statement released earlier today regarding the FCC's decision, Kerry said:

"Nothing is more important in a democracy than public access to debates and information, which lift up our discourse and give Americans an opportunity to make honest informed choices. Today's wrongheaded vote by the Republican members of the FCC to loosen media ownership rules shows a dangerous indifference to the consolidation of power in the hands of a few large entities rather than promoting diversity and independence at the local level. The FCC should do more than rubber stamp the business plans of narrow economic interests.

"Today's vote is a complete dereliction of duty. The Commissioners are well aware that these rules greatly influence the competitive structure of the industry and protect the public's access to multiple sources of information and media. It is the Commission's responsibility to ensure that the rules serve our national goals of diversity, competition, and localism in media. With today's vote, they shirked that responsibility and have dismissed any serious discussion about the impact of media consolidation on our own democracy."

5. I don't know about the shunning but
I know of two who came out and agreed with bush that Kerry needed to apologize.

There were others like Murtha, Dean, and I forget who else said it was nothing and we should be focusing on bush's Failure in Iraq.

6. I saw the Murtha one and he was fantastic
because of who he was. After saying in a very authoritative voice that he KNEW that Kerry supported the media, he transistioned into how the troops were being mistreated - in a calm, sad, impassioned voice - this is a man who has the troops at heart.

8. yeah - that was a weird slip
It really was good because Murtha was just so obviously on the level when speaking of everything that's gone wrong.

9. Because Murtha is authentic about the troops he knows Kerry is authentic.
Everyone in DC knows Kerry has crafted many of the bills benefitting troops and veterans - every Dem and every Republican. The GOPs are playing a ROLE to lie about Kerry and the Dems who joined them are doing the same.

Truth doesn't matter to most Republicans or to some Democrats if they think they can glorify themself somehow with the use of that lie.

Great opportunity to shout back. Tom Friedman, in an editorial that appeared in Friday's edition of The New York Times blasts Bush/Cheney. Media is dragging this out and dem's look the best.

12. We better recognize it will happen to any Democrat.
And those who cancelled his appearances, even Jon Tester whom we have donated to several times....better get their acts together.

There should have no one on our side distancing themselves. It has happened too many times in our party.
