12 Smartcards go missing in Tennesee - Sorry it's from Drudge
http://www.drudgereport.com/flash1tn.htm

Political insiders have expressed alarm after 12 voter smartcards have gone missing from one Shelby County, TN early vote location!

The cards are used to activate electronic voting machines.

The location at the center of the controversy is Bishop Byrne High School on E. Shelby Drive in Memphis.

The polling place started out with 25 cards. By Wednesday, 11 were missing, says an eyewitness.

The location was given 5 more smartcards on Thursday.

And another card went missing!

Someone possessing a smartcard could use 'off the shelf equipment' (equipment that reprograms the card) and alter it to be used multiple times, and cast multiple votes.

1. my concern
people are so positive that the republicans are going to steal the election and rig votes, and are also concerned that it's a vast conspiracy that no one has the power or desire to stop: it's a lost cause, etc etc etc

So a group of people on the left decide that they need to be ones to step up and stop this from happening, and since the challenges in 2000 and 2004 were fruitless, they feel the only way to reach an even playing field is to fight fire with fire.

And you get a small group of people on the left stealing cards, destroying votes, discouraging potential republicans from voting - basically all the stuff that they think the Republicans are doing.

But since they are not part of the establishment, are less organized, and don't have the sophisticate methods the right has, they get caught. A big scandal erupts that it's Democrats who are the scumbags stealing elections and blah blah blah.

And then this big gain on Tuesday is in jeopardy in '08 because of the stigma that comes of it.

2. they may not dare hack the vote..
but they will sure disrupt the vote...
breaking machines, stealing cards, contesting voters,
obstructing polls, etc etc..

Republicans, by definition, hate democracy

3. Yup. The size of the theft, and the stealing of replacement cards
looks like an attempt to suppress the vote in that precinct. Less active machines means longer lines.

4. I'm skeptical of anything from Drudge.
He's been shown to be an iffy source in the past.
